    Default New AV stuff [question]

I just picked up a Panasonic TH-37PX60U & Denon S-301 from Best Buy. They were open box items and go them both for $1850 (I needed new stuff for the living room [mostly for the wife]). They both do have a few scratches (which really don't bother me much), but the TV has 2 scratches on the screen. They really are only noticable during either very bright or dark scenes.

Does anyone know if the screen can be replaced? Or do you think I should just try to take back the set (but I really can't afford to spend any more than I already did).

    Opinions would be appreciated.

hey sorry that this isnt about your post but how do you like your fxi-30 vs your rti-38 if you had to compare then for the purpose of being rear surround speakers, im contemplating on getting the fxi3 or the rti4 right now for my setup and im sure they sound very similar to what you have so any opinions would be great. good luck with the open box items hope the tv turns out all right.

    Pablo,

Personally, I would have to take back the TV. Scratches on a new plasma that you have already noticed will just tend to continue to bother you for the life of the TV. I know that once I spot an imperfection on a piece of my equipment, it tends to aggravate me.

    But that is just me.

if your avr supports them then I would go both, for HT the FXi3s are awesome, the speakers to me are a good size as well. The rti4 are great as well, especially when Im listening to multichannel music, and they are huge in size, I have them mounted on the wall and am enjoying them every bit. Since space was a concern for my rear setup I went with the smaller speakers however both will provide big quality sound. Just feed them power and drive them. My 12s up front are a beast, and I apologize for the thread jack.

I picked up most of my Polks when a local store was closing (the Wiz). The RTIs really crank. For a while I had the FXIs as surrounds and the RTIs for the rear for a while, then switched them when I rebuilt my basement (haven't changed my signature). In my case it's a much better set up with the FXIs in the back. If you're going with a 5 channel set up and use it for music, I would go with the RTIs. They have a much bigger punch (but they are kinda large). I had them in the back because they were so large. Now I have them inset in the ceiling at an angle in come custom boxes I built and hung between the joists.

    Good luck with your system.

I'd also be inclined to take the tv back... I work for best buy (future shop) and get to see what open box stuff gets put through and personally wouldn't touch the stuff. They will try to sell you open box with a 5% discount but if you push them hard enough you might be able to bump that up. Five percent just isn't enough to me to justify buying what is basically a used tv.

    Just another strangers opinion ;)

I only bought it because they were a great price. They TV goes for around $1700 and the denon system (it's a 2 speaker dvd/cd/"surround" system) goes for $1500. I got them both for $1850.

Well... that changes things then :p

Sorry, I didn't really look into the products to see what they were worth and only assumed you saved the usual amount. We have the tv alone for 2500 cdn.
