    Default HK DACs

What is the general impression of the DACs in HK receivers? are they any good? do they increase in quality as the level of AVR increases ?

I know I should try the dfferent DACS, but curiousto hear of what others thought of their DACS in their HK as apposed to their CDP.

Harman Kardon DACS are made by a company called CIRRUS-LOGIC.

As to the quality, I like them. Alot. Imo they are equal if not superior to the Burr-Browns at their given price point(s), and are quite favorable to many stand-alone cdp's out there. The Cirrus DAC used in my avr-235 is the CS-4392 and a Cirrus 32bit DSP (CS-49400) handles the DTS processing, Dolby Digital/Prologic IIx, etc.

Cirrus revolutionized the DAC back in '98 with a new design:

Thanks Andrew. I might try the DAC in my HK 335 as apposed to my DAC in my Marantz Dv4200

    Willow,

You may want to pop the top of your HK and Marantz to be sure that they are not using the same DAC. Since CIRRUS supplies both HK and Marantz, it is a good possibility that the DACs are the same.
