Upgraded to Denon DVD 5900

I wish to extend a "good on ya mate" to all the folks in Polk forums. While we may not always agree, it's been most informative for me, as I have learned much from discussions with you all, and for that, I thank everyone.:)
Based on discussions and feedback, I called my fav. HT dealer (Audio Classics in NY), and have decided to take the plunge, and upgraded my source to a Denon DVD 5900. The price was right, and should provide a noticeable improvement over my elite DV 59 avi. Can hardly wait for it to arrive.
Does anyone have this unit, and, if so, can you share yur thoughts/observations?

Are you going to use it primary for Music or Movies?
Why not the 5910?
The 5900 has been out of production for 2 years!

Good Question. I am getting the 5900 primarily for music, movies second. From what I've read, the video glitches with the early models were fixed with S/W F/W updates. This unit is a late production model, with all the updates. The audio section is supposed to be killer with this unit. The biggest reason though, is the price is a fraction of it's orignal cost, never mind the 5910. so' it's the best I could do for the price point.

Congrats on the 5900! I hear it's a great unit. I have never heard one, but I have always wanted to check it out. What's the difference between the 5900 and the 5910?

I hope your experience with them is better than mine. Depending on the version(Auto 2(V2), the video should be pretty untouchable in comparison to the Pioneer.

There are all kinds of little differences between the 5900 and 5910. The main one being the 5910 isn't the replacement for the 5900...that's the 3910. The 5910 is a totally different and a more flexible animal.

I thought the 3910 was a replacemet for the 5900 also, but that turned out not to be quite accurate. The 5900 has dual power supplies (the 3910 only has one), a beefier transport, hevier chassis, copper shielding, etc. There was a write up in audioholics about the differences. Turns out the 3910 is the replacement for the 3900 from a build quality issue, the 5910 is closer to the older 9000, and the 5900 is in the middle.

You can interpret it in any way you wish, but the model line change is simply reality. The comments I am referring to are from Denon USA and Home Fidelity Benchmark.
