Default Pioneer Elite DV-45A has arrived!!!!! Only one question . . . ?

My new baby has just arrived, but how should I hook it up? The multi-channel outputs are great, but the toslink allows me to go from surround to stereo and back. More importantly, the Toslink allows me to continue to use my sub in stereo where the mulitchannel does not. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I just drop the cash and wire it both ways? I have to admit, I think the multichannel plugs sound different, but I"m not sure if it's good or bad. Anyone have any suggestions?

I don't have my subs in stereo and I like it better. It was easier to EQ. Congrats on the new gear.

I have the Pioneer Elite 59avi and went through the same thing. Ends up I hooked them both ways, but typically listen to 2 channel with the digital connection. My AVR's DACs may not be as good that the Burr Brown's in the 59avi, but I like the bass management and ability to have the sub on or off. I usually listen to stereo with my Monitor 60's set to large and the sub on. Seems to fill the sound spectrum well.

With the 60's, it seems to have a slight midbass gap when I run them small with a sub, and big lack of all-around bass when I run them large with sub off. However, when there's little to no bass in a song, I usually go with the stereo analog connection instead of coaxial/toslink.

Try it both ways. I rarely listen to multichannel music, so it was only two cables for me to connect the analog, not 6.

I wouldn't say anything is a mistake, just different tastes. Try it every way you can with music you're initimately familiar with and see what you like.

With my equipment and sonic preference, I like it large with sub on. However, if I had speakers that had better low end punch, or maybe a more musical sub (or a sub that blended in better), or if my system was calibrated differently, etc, etc, etc, I may very well prefer to run them small with the sub on or run them large with no sub at all.

It's all a matter of preference. Your setup bests mine in almost every way, so just do what you think sounds best.

Also, FWIW, I'm just a noob with some lowly Monitors. . . but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
