    Default Bryston 6B SST Amp

I'm currently enjoying my Outlaw M2200s however Im considering the 3 channel Bryston. Has anyone heard them ? How would you compare them to the Outlaws, I just plan to use them to biamp the front soundstage. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I sell Bryston and have been very pleased with it so far. It has a very neutral sound, and the one you are looking at has enough power to drive almost anything.

    Thumbs up Bryston

I am using a Bryston 4BST in the 2 channel room, in connection with a Bryston preamp, and I think it's a winning combo.
Plenty of power, with a clean, smooth, detailed sound. Dead quiet when idiling.

The only exposure I've had to Bryston is a set of their preamp and amp powering a pair of B&W 804D's. I was very impressed, to say the least.

However, I have to say that my honest opinion is that the RTi's are no where near deserving of Bryston-level gear.

I think you mean 803D's, no such thing as an 804D.

Sherardp, do you mean that you will use the Outlaws and Bryston together to biamp the front 3? If so, I would just go with the Bryston, The Outlaws are good but will be way out classed by the Bryston. My 250 watt Krell, makes my 200 watt Outlaw sound like a 50 watt amp. There will be a mismatch if you use both in conjuntion.

I just want to use my sony 7100es as a pre/pro use the bryston to biamp the front soundstage and let the sony pick up the surrounds. I guess I could even let the bryston handle the fronts if I wanted to.

The 6B would be more than adequate to handle the fronts, without biamping.

Agreed, Just thinking the more power the better. My AVR pumps out 170 wpc x 7, probably around 158 all channels driven so that along with the Bryston should really rock the house. The outlaws are great though, just a thought. I may just keep the outlaws and add another M2200 to the center and save the cash. Not sure yet.

You really think your receiver is putting out that much power?

A 9b would probably be more reasonable- Bryston underrates all it's gear- they call it 125 watts, it specs at 150 and most manufacturers would call it 200-225.

In any case, as others have mentioned, a bryston might be overkill for RTi's... but if you want to spend the cash, they're top notch. 20 year fully transferable warranty, and I personally prefer what my 9b puts out to what my krell integrated does... "125" watts w/ the 9b vs "150" w/ the Krell. it goes without saying that the 4b kicks both their asses.

Just go ahead and get 2 or 3 of the new 28B SST monoblocks.

They are 1000 watts each, and have a retail price of approx $7000 :)

I tried lifting it off that platform in Denver. I would NOT want to install a 7 channel system with those by myself.

It is a new piece. They have a review on the left side of the home page, but it is does not have its specifications listed with the rest of the amplifiers.

My rep emailed me the price and power ratings this week, but I don't have much more than the review has.

Ahh. I was just wondering what it's output into 8ohms versus 4 ohms was. I don't imagine it would be 2ohm stable...or is it?

I would imagine it is 2 ohm stable, but don't know for sure.

Here are the specs given to me:

    · Over 160,000 MFD of filter capacitance
    · Newly designed input circuitry
    · No wiring in audio power signal path
    · Extremely low noise – typically 118 dB
    · Extremely low distortion – typically .005 at 20 Hz to 20KHz 8ohms
    · Selectable gain (2V- 23dB), (1V- 29dB)
    · Input Impedance 50Khz Single Ended ---100K Balanced
    · A/C Power and control features isolated and shielded from audio path
    · Greatly Improved Common Mode Rejection ratio
    · Remote 12-Volt power trigger input
    · Balanced and Single ended inputs.
    · Two sets of speaker outputs (bi-wire)
    · New alternate action power switch (push on/off)
    · 32 Output devices per amplifier
    · Available in Silver or Black 19 inch or 17 inch C-series faceplates
    · Available in 19 inch Rack-Mount faceplate versions

Oh, so that's how much power it puts out into 4 ohms. ;)

I can only imagine a beast of an amp like that. What's different about the power button, if you know? I thought they all had a push button, where the name is.

Bryston probably won't claim it's 2 ohm stable -they underrate all their products. I've heard of plenty of people loading their 4Bs down to 2ohm with no ill effects- it helps that all the components are rated to 100degrees c. You'd literally have to be boiling water on the heat sinks before it'd fail. Anyhow, they're advertising 1000 watts into 8ohm (with most units specing at 1200+) and 2000 watts into 4 ohm. I'm trying to talk my bryston hookup into getting ahold of a pair for us to play with, but that's not likely.

Even at wholesale prices, that would be a very large investment to just "play" with.

They do mostly high-end studio gear and they move a lot of it... I think their average stock on hand is about a half mil, so he could probably swing having a pair in stock... on the other hand, having a pair open box just so we can dick around with them might not be a wise investment :)

But don't worry, if I actually get some "hands on" time, I'll be sure to let you guys know.
