No one buys a Mustang only to have it be a V6.

That's like getting some LSi9 and powering it with a Sherwood receiver.

Well you guys were right...that car was horrible...the engine had burned oil all over it...the bumpers were replaced its been in a wreck. I'm getting a GT for sure now 2002 or higher. The one for 14k they had it priced at 15,500 at the lot so I had no luck getting them to lower it. I'm going to check classifieds, and e-bay, save for a bigger down payment, so I won't have to pay as much interest.

I'm trying to tell ya that, that dealer is not that out of line on that price for the 02 GT. It's got good miles and from , as much as one can tell from the photos, looks to be fairly well kept and not abused. The automatics normally see less abuse than the manuals, but even they are built to take the abuse

The car was in great shape, I found same car, and color at another dealership for $12,950 55k miles. I'll see if they can't get it down if not still a more affoardable price. Theirs also a private seller same car, color, price, but it's a manual, but only 12,000 miles.

Dude, by all means, if you can drive a manual, GET IT!!!! With only 12k miles, I doubt it's damaged. The Mustang and a handful of other cars are the only vehicles that have zero deduction in value for having a manual tranny. There is a world of difference in driving experience/pleasure between an automatic and a manual Stang.

    ditto

And if you can't drive a manual, then make a fool of yourself learning how. 'Cause you are a fool if you don't jump on that. ;)

The mustangs don't hold up the way the f-bodies do and the GM has a much better motor. This is if you stay from 1993 and up. NOT the I-ROC style f-bodies. You can get a 2000 for around 10,000 if you look around.

Trans-am were hard to find with good mileage, the camaros I like the one thing that I liked better with the GT was mainly is the interior, mainly leather seats.

Ya the interior is roomier in the stang. But the GM is a better built car.

That's the first I've ever heard that, except from die-hard Chevy fans. I have a 160K mile 1994 GT and it doesn't even have any squeaks or rattles, nor does it use any oil. Drivetrains are about equal as far as reliablilty.

I love both and for a while ford had it all over chevy. But after '93, chevy really stepped things up with the new f-body.I bought all ford work trucks for our company for years also until the Triton motor came out. We had trouble with two and then a rod shot thru the block at 60,000miles on a third.
The chevy has a more rigid frame and better motor. The price is usually lower on used models because Mustangs still have alot of fans and sell faster.

Keep in mind, if you are buying a used car (especially if you finance) try to buy from a Ford dealer if it's a mustang or GM dealer for an F-body and tell them you want the FACTORY certified warrenty.DO NOT let them give you one of those warrenty company deals. If something expensive breaks on the car that you can't afford to fix you will still be making your payment. The factory used car warrenties are great and mirror the new car warrenty minus wear items (breaks, weather stripping, clutches, etc.)

And yes manual is WAY more fun to drive. If you don't know how, get someone to teach you.

I agree i'd only consider driving a manual if its a sports car. I just checked out the carfax report for that mustang...it shows Frame Damage, and the 2nd owner has only had the car for a month and selling it. Theirs a Red GT Bullitt 13,250 from a private seller I might look at...two other Silver GT's at 12,950 at a few other dealerships. 55-65k miles automatic.

I'll do another search for some Trans-am's and Camaros my price range was originally just $10,000 when I did a search for them.

If you're at all interested in GM's offerings, I would open up my searches to the Camaro and Trans-Am. My two personal picks would be a 2000+ TransAm WS6 (black with t-tops), or a 2001 orange Camaro SS. I love those two cars.

Frame damage? Run. The Bullit would be a neat ride, though. And, I really would rather wait longer/pay more to end up with a manual.

I just found out what I would get! If I were looking to spend about $12k, I'd put $2k more with it, and get this!! *drools*

Wow. That brings back memories. Had a 79 in the driveway until 2000.
Son #1 was waiting to make a left turn, and some lady in a Honda tried to drive through him at 55mph. She didn't even hit the brake pedal(damn cellphones). It went from never being in an accident to junk.

Wow. Man, that's sad. Mmm. That's terrible. At least he could have wrapped it around a telephone drying to drift around a turn in the wet and 55mph, instead of just sitting in the road! Haha, j/k.

Are you the one on here who had a beautiful, like new blue Firebird? I remember someone did, and that it really was like new, and that the owner practically only took it out of the garage to wash it. But I'm not sure who it was...

EDIT - Was it really 'junk'? I mean, how much damage did it do (if it's not too painful to think about)? I can definitely imagine the trunk, quarterpanels, rear end/suspension was gone, but did it mess up anything else? Hmm, I guess an impact at 55mph would put a hurting on the frame.

The Blue one was NOT mine. The 79 was the son's project. He bought it from a guy down the street that owned it new. It had new paint, carpet, seat covers, etc. We had a lot of stuff from A.P.E. (all Pontiac Engineering).
we put into it to bring it back to it's glory. It was junk after this hit.
It didn't even crush the trunk. The impact put ripples all over the car. The pillars, panels, doors, everything was so f'd up it could never be straight again. Almost nothing was re-usable on the body.
I was the one that ate the tree. 71 Mach 1 Mustang. Parts of me still hurt!

Yep, they are real work horses. Old technology guts with high-tech fuel systems to make them streetable w/ 10:1 compression & a pretty high lift cam for a factory ride. I am not a fan of the mod motor in a work truck or sports car. The 5.4 seems pretty good but that 4.6 just isn't sturdy enough.
You want a great ford, that fox platform w/ the 302 was a great set up and bullet proof.

Well after paying off one credit card, and just waiting. Theirs still no good deals on 2002 or above GT's. 12,500 is the cheapest i've seen and their grey with 70k+ miles. Since i'm still going to school, I don't want to have too big of a car payment. I have seen a couple of 2003 mustangs V6's drop down in price. One went from 10,500 to to 8,900. Another red one went from 12,000 to 10,000. The red one only has 51k miles I'm considering one of these two.

With the price being much better for 03 V6's is it a better idea to get it or is GT still the way the go? If it is their's a 2000(10k) and and 2001(9k) GT both have 90k miles.

I'd definitely get either of the GT's, personally.

I stopped and looked at a few cars around here, and found a '98 Firebird (in great shape) with 108,000 for 8,900, and a 1999 Camaro with 70,000 for, I think, 9,900. I've been thinking about those...

...though, actually, I've been even more intrigued by a 1986 Monte Carlo a friend found for $500...

Well I just saw a 2002 Silver Mustang GT at a dealership they just got it in today. 10,900 76k miles. Black leather seats I like the price, but you guys think its a good price or is it too many miles? I'm going to test drive it tomorrow..he said something about it having a mach 1 system. Anyone know what that means? I'm assuming he means a audio system? I know their's certain collectible cars with mach 1 but I can't google a 2002 version.

Yeah, I would bet he's referring to the audio system. A Mach 1 (vs. Bullit vs. GT, etc.) would cost more than that!

Sounds to me like a good deal! But I'd wait for someone else's opinion.
