plasma with burn in

Hi all I was watching my plasma tv and noticed that i have burn in on the lower right corner. The burned in image is from a news channel putting their little logo that says fox 2. It pisses me off. Does anyone know if this is covered under warranty Or has anyone ever complained to the television station and got any where. I feel that i have the settings right on my display the contrast and brightness isnt cranked way up.The television cost me $4300.00 and it is only 8 months old. I am the only person who watches it and it is rarely on for more than 2 hrs at a time. I under stand the reasons it burns like it did. Has anyone else had any similar issues and what did you do about it or who did you bitch to.

who would you sue? TV stations have the right to put out "bugs" (that little 2 in the corner of your screen) as long as it doens't violate any FCC rules or regs.

and I doubt you'd win in court because your plasma was damaged because that channel had their bug on and in the corner.

Maybe that's just one drawback of plasma displays, i dont know. i can't afford one.

Not sure if flat screen displays are like other displays whereby they have screen savers or not. if so. activate the screen saver. otherwise. turn it off when you're not going to watch if for more than 15 minutes. I'd rather turn on and off my tv several times. then suffer burn in.. I HATE BURN IN! it's evil

Give this a try. I have not tried it. It seems there is a mode on my tv that helps cut down eleviate minor burn-in. I am looking for my manual now ir I find I will tell you what they suggest. I have seen consitantly though to turn the contrats down to 50% for atleast the first few hundred hours.

This is why I bought a DLP instead. I went out to get a plasma but got cold feet with the burn in. The DLP's picture is great and ,with the 4 year warrenty, I don't have to worry about bulb replacement. The warrenty covers the bulb and labor. Don't get me wrong, the plasma's picture is better, but with kids playing playstation I coudn't feel comfortable.

I had read somewhere that if you can get a channel to display "snow" or static for a while that this can help repair burn in.
I have never had burn in so I don't know if it would work. Furthermore, my set does not appear to display snow if the channel gets no reception.
Perhaps that screen fix will work or you could video tape snow and replay it on your set.

there is a difference between burn-in and image retention. if its just image retention, don't worry about it, it will go away. try watching something that doesn't have that logo for a few hours and see if it is still noticeable afterwards.

Sorry for your situation. Not to rub salt in a wound, but this to me is EXACTLY the reason not to buy a plasma. Even if it is ghosting that will go away, what a pain. I wouldn't want to have to worry about contrast levels for the first few hunderd hours or always have the thought in the back of mind that there is a chance of burn in. Or having to worry about the ghosting going away in a few hours/ days. IMO, LCD is nearly as good these days and the pain in the ass factor with plasmas doesn't outweigh the benefit in PQ. Only my opinion, for what its worth...

MY tv is a pioneer 5060 plasma. I am not sure if it is ghosting or burn in. I can only see it in the right light from the display or if i walk up close to it.I was under the impression that newer plasmas had a technology that prevented images from burn in. I cant explain it but i will try Something keeps moving to prevent it. I set up my tv using an avia disc and the contrast is less than half. Thanks Fox2 (bastards)

Newer plasmas are more resistant to burn-in but I don't think they are completely free from image retention. Run a non-static screen for a few hours and see how it goes (put a dvd on loop play or something). Please let us know what happens. I'm currently interested in pioneer's newer xx70 lineup. THanks.

I have seen retention on mine at different times, but it always goes away. Given your habits I assume you don't have burn in. Just wondering, mine was set up from the factory to look like a torch and this really caused a lot of retention, is yours like that and if so did you tone it down a bit. Maybe run one of the calibration discs? They set them up that way because the brighter one with the most contrast always wins in the store, even when it is too much.

I have also notice slight image retention, but I wouldn't call it burn in unless it doesn't go away for weeks or more. Most fourth generation Plasmas (anything bought the last couple years) have some settings you can run to get rid of it. Mine has a few things, a grayscale wash that plays right to left, and a white-out where the image is bright white.

I try to run the white thing once a week or so. Not only does it help alleviate image retention, but I can see what images cause retention and try to stay away from them.

Like, if I always see the ABC logo, I'll try to flip around a bit while I'm watching ABC.

I doubt you have an issue. give it some time, try to read your manual and see what features are on the TV to appease retained images.

thanks for the tips I dont have the image wash feature on my tv. I dont see it as bad anymore only if i get right up to the tv. I think it must be ghosting. Does anyone have or know of a disc that has a white screen i can get to try to wipe the image. regardless of the image stuck on the screen pioneer is still my favorite plasma.

I do love the Pioneer plasmas, but they do seem to have more image retention than other displays from my observations at work, although LG is bad for it too. We frequently have ESPNHD on and when the program isn't high def, ESPN puts those stupid gray striped bars on the sides and I see them on the tv's when the high def programming comes on. LCD's can have temporary image retention too, btw.

Here is a post I made several months back. I think what you are experiencing is exactly what I experienced when I played a video game for over 100 hours. Hopefully this helps.

This could not be further from the truth. I just cranked out over 100 hours playing XBOX-360 Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion on my Pioneer Elite plasma, and there are no signs of the health bar after watching regular TV for several days. Yes, they did show up very slightly for a while, but have completely disappeared from the screen.

Now, I cannot say that "playing for 200 hours without a doubt will not burn in" on your plasma, since I have not done it. But if you are playing/watching something for 200 hours straight and it does burn in, that is just pure abuse in my mind, and owner beware "undesireable things may happen when you abuse your TV" (in all honesty, 100 hours was abuse too. I just want people to know what I was able to do and still not have any burn in on my plasma - the game was so good I could not put it down =)....).

Please don't spread rumors about the new plasmas. You may have experienced burn-in with models from 4 or 5 years ago, but my 1 year old plasma has been humming along without any signs of burn-in after the abuse I put it through.
