Hdmi audio

Is there any pre-pros out there that have hdmi audio inputs? I know theres a few that do video switching with hdmi but I cant find any that do audio.I was looking at the Adcom gtp-870hd pre-pro, but it only has video hdmi.thanks

HDMI, carries both an audio and video signal. Most HDMI receivers will do passthrough . Are you referring to a receiver that does HDMI video switching?

Thanks, I was talking about audio only from a dvd player, the new hd & blu-ray players have that audio output.

Yes, if you use the HDMI output you will get both audio and video in one connector. That's what is nice about HDMI, no cable clutter.

I'm using the Toshiba HD-XA1 connected via HDMI to my Pionner VSX-74 then to my Panny 50PHD8UK plasma with no issues.

If a AVR receiver will do a pass-through why would anyone update their AVR?
A remote will do everything you need if a TV will do this input switching.

The benefit for some, Steve, is if you have upconversion, to send all your analog video signals as well in the same cable.
However, if wiring isn't a problem for you, you're right. Let the tv do the video, and the receiver the audio.

I encountered this dilemma last month. The Onkyo upconverting receiver is now packaged and shipping back today. Went with an HK with no HDMI.

I like the HDMI input for video, but I miss my AVR menu and the volume view from my TV. But I don't think an AVR will input these menu or view for HDMI output from an AVR.

Are you asking if any pre-pros can decode the all the new higher resolution surround formats sent through HDMI from HD-DVD and Blu-ray?

If so, I do not know of any pre-pros that can do this yet.

It will decode Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby True HD, and DTS-HD?

Yep. Got it. It's awesome.

It does not decode Dolby Plus and True HD per se. It takes the uncompressed signal (multichannel)via PCM over HDMI and it sounds delicious.

HA!:D I got it from Sound Components in Coral Gables, FL. I probably could have saved some money by getting it from dealers online but I felt more comfortable having a local brick and mortar store to go to for customer service since it's so freakin expensive.

Yep, my Pioneer VSX-74TXVi does it also via HDMI.

I think Pioneer and Yamaha have some receivers that can do multichannel ausio over HDMI also...and they don't cost almost 7k to do it.
