    Default Balanced Audio Technology

Well, as the PF06 crowd knows the BAT VK-31SE preamp developed a hiss in the right channel the first night of the Fest. Sort of dissapointing and since Doro's pre had gotten jinxed during the last fest in SC, I was like WTF???

Anyway, I had wanted to share how neutral this pre is with the gang, its the most neutral I have owned to date, whether you like that sort of thing is an individual subjective thing, but it defines neutral, utilizing the 6h30 super tube, large power supplies for each channel, impressive capacitor set-up for speed/quickness and plenty of storage, metal film resistors, a shunt volume control and short siganl paths. But enough of all that, besides the Dodd MLP filled in just fine.

What I really want to say is how impressed I am with BAT's service, I sent the unit to BAT on Tuesday last week and it is scheduled for delivery back to me this Thursday so 10 days out of the rack including ship time and a weekend. They got the unit on Thursday repaired it Friday and shipped it out on Monday, this is exceptional, oh, BTW it was a voltage regulator that went noisy on me, the total cost for repair (out of warranty) was 110.00 including shipping. The bill comes as an invoice and you are told not to pay it until you get the unit and try it out.

One more thing, when I have called BAT with a question I have found that I should set aside some time, these folks are very into audio and their products, you get your answer and a tutorial in why they do things a certain way.

I just wanted to give them some kudo's for the fast service, of course the real test will come when I get her back in the Shed Thursday, hoping the shipping gorillas are tame on its way back to me.

    Excellent news!

Vladimer (chief service tech): We make everything work nice...together all BAT work very nice, we have three power transmission line to factory, you put BAT to BAT, balanced power is key.

me, yea when you going to make an SACD player?

Vlad: That is not in our plan.......waaaaaaaaaa

all very Russain you know, err.....lost a bit of humour when I mentioned an English made SACD................anyway, they are a kick to deal with.

Vladimer is a trip to talk to. When I got my 3i with remote volume, someone had told me to discharge myself of static before touching the volume knob or I could blow the remote board. I used the remote most of the time, unless I was spinning vinyl and was close to the pre and some adjustment was required before sitting down.

One day I quickly reached to turn it down without discharging myself on the case first and I had one of them stage 4 static discharges that you can see, hear and feel. Could have been the smoking jacket.... Anyway, the volume went way loud and while the display changed, the volume wouldn't. Vladimer fix....and he implemented the static discharge protection found in later units. Funny thing was Victor would not allude to the extistance of that problem, where Vladimer would acknowledge "leetle problem, need ground"....

I've got a small dent in the harwood floor from a BAT remote. No damage to the remote at all.

That BAT remote, while stout - is a weakling in comparison to that Jolida JD100 remote...

Which is a deadly object, which if thrown - could easily injure or kill someone.

:) Hey Big Daddy, i am glad to hear that she is up and running now.i called customer service at BAT once with a question about tube rolling and the guy on the line kept me on the phone for a half an hour. BAT is a great company to deal with and i would have no problem with buying more of thier Gear in the distant future. thanks....WCW III

Yea, they are something, I finally figured out the American guy who usually answers the phone is Steve Bednarski, co-founder of the company.
