Default This guy is a MORON.... when audiophile borders on stupidity...

    http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=205316

Dont ever... ever.... EVER... be like that guy. He's an idiot.

Clearly, the guy's an audiophile not for the musical enjoyment of it, but for the gear itself.

He spent $30,000 on wires and interconnects... for his crappy headphone system! Not only that, but he has thousands$$$ on stupid ERS paper! Doesnt he know that he could cause a fire??!!

isnt paper + electricical components = house fire?

Some kind of an electromagnetic resistant paper thingy... he says it tightens the bass and is a 2,000,000/10 on his scale of sonic improvement.

I swear, he's going to burn his whole system.

This guy doesnt believe in the input/output plugs, so he solders the interconnects directly on the board!

Thinking about him makes me want to slap him... I dont know why. I'm not usually an angry man.

    EEEEESH!!!!

thats just having waaaaaay too much time on one's hands. I did note that this ERS paper's leading edge is apparently conductive. couple this with how much this guy used, makes me think he is playing with fire, pun intended :D

if the edge of the paper is conductive, I guess it must have metal in it or something? ah hell, I know I aint using it anytime soon. I barely find motivation to remove my component covers to roll tubes for christ sakes :p

I think that a little bit of information in an ignorant guy (I doubt he has an electrical engineering degree) is a bad thing. This Partrick guy is certainly asking for it.

    My favorite post by Patrick...
"Just because I didn't hear a difference after 15 minutes of testing doesn't mean there isn't one. This doesn't change anything, I still believe it makes a difference, I just can't hear it yet. Only a fool would say it is placebo without trying to fully understand it, that's what I try to do. 1 year testing is the absolute minimum.

When I come to think of it, I always wanted to buy a tweak that does nothing because I was bored of always hearing night and day improvements and wanted it to stop. It's nocebo at its best! It was my cheapest tweak and cost me only $30, coincidence? I guess it gave me exactly what I wanted. Now it's time to find the truth..."

This dude also said he uses ear plugs when going to sleep. This is some crazy stuff.

I use ear plugs. But only if a live show is too loud and when I'm taking a shower. This really helps. I always get water in my ears, probably beacause I have long hair that runs half way down my back:).

    Joey,

I am going to call for the forum to say a prayer on behalf of your flip ass. If you can find the time to entertain yourself with the musings of this said can-nut - you can get off that lazy rear of yours to unhook that Rogue. :p

    Damn you, Sean! :D

I promise I will go "preamp-less" in the next day or two. By Tuesday, you will find my report on how a "preamp-less" system sounds like.

Last I checked ERS paper was supposed to be used in very small amounts, as you can very easily over do it. As for direct soldering instead of interconnects, I have heard of this before, actually Ric Schultz of EVS is famous for doing this. He made the EVS Ultimate Attenuators because preamps messed with the sounds to much for his liking. Then as the story goes even that affected the sound to much, so he would solder individual resistors inline. Every time he wanted to change the volume he would remove the resistor and solder a new one in.

He still makes amps, and last time I checked had a funny way of doing binding posts. He believes that they color the sound to much, so he bypasses them so you can do speaker wire to speaker wire directly. The binding posts only works to clamp the two together.

Of course this guy took these ideas and just went a little overboard.

Patrick is for real, he's been around for awhile. Sometimes there is a fine line between a real tweak and a 'moronic tweak', but all that really matters is that if somebody's widget makes their system sound better to them, then more power to 'em.

However, I want to know more about that clear sausage casing that the wires are bundled inside of, and would it be better to put the ERS paper in the casing.

I think this is Patrick, as he's testing the obvious benefits of "Brilliant Pebbles" - rocks that, when placed within the vicinity of audio equipment, greatly enhance the music that's reproduced; creating a more analog sound, with blacker blacks, while deepening and widening the soundstage. In this instance he's got them nicely centered between his ears, to avoid providing too much benefit to one ear and sonically neglecting the other.

Upon further review, this guy is quite possibly the funniest human being on the planet. It doesn't matter if he's completely earnest in his efforts, or if he's pulling a fantastic lampooning of the over-the-top audiophile. The video below is top-shelf comedy, imo.
