Henry Mancini, hell, everything he was involved with is pretty awesome, love Peter Gunn, now there is a natural unsynthed driving bass line. The list of his major song credits is extensive.

For something more contemporary I'd suggest:

    Roomfull of Blues
    Duke Robillard

Classic swing goes to Count Basie in my book.

The absolute best modern swing band is Big Bag Voodoo Daddy. (They are also the swing band that is featured in the movie Swingers) They have a very cool version of the theme to Jungle Book. If anybody gets a chance to see them live, do it.

Glenn Miller - "In the Digital Mood," fun CD.

Also check out this site, the big band music is awesome and the sonics are five stars.

Second vote for Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.

You can also try The Brian Setzer Orchestra (great Christmas CD) and possible some Cherry Poppin' Daddies.

The following 3 albums might be right down your alley. They are CD/DVD combos and are very good.

Duke Ellington - The Centennial Collection
Benny Goodman - The Centennial Collection
Glenn Miller - The Centennial Collection

If you are just interested in Glenn Miller music I recommend Platinum Glenn Miller. A two disc set with all his great stuff.

Miller and Goodman were the kings of swing. Harry James and Tommy Dorsey were maybe better but have not been remembered through time as well.

All these guys were good musicians as well as putting together great bands (Ellington - Piano, James - Trumpet, Dorsey & Miller - Trombone, Goodman - Clarinet)
