I bought their Emotiva LMC-1 pre-pro last July through AVS123. There was a HDMI upgrade for it that was to be sent to LMC-1 owners free of charge. I had forgotten about it until last week. I then found out that AVS doesn't carry Emotiva anymore so I called Emotiva direct. Very nice folks to deal with, they didn't even want the proof of purchase and are sending me the upgrade free of charge.

It looks like the DMC-1 pre-amp is a rebadged Sunfire Theater Grand IV. If that is the case - it would be a heck of a deal for $1,499.

I like in the article when the author say Emotiva chose to do this and Emotiva chose to do this and that, and ohh, Emotiva was smart to do this. No numbskull, Bob Carver was smart to do that, Emotiva was smart to not screw with the design.

I got my eye on that RPA-1 amplifier. Could be a winner.

Yes that RPA sounds like a looker but dual mono and dual transformers don't sound to good for it being common ground or am I just paranoid?
I have thought for awhile now that we need a (sticky) thread with known common ground amps for people coming here with SDAs looking for power.

You're sorta being paranoid. Plenty of dual mono's are common ground- if you can bridge mono it, then it's common ground. Oh, wait, I was looking at the BPA. I dunno on the RPA.

E-mail Emotive with your question. I had a technical question, so I e-mailed them earlier today. They responded within a couple of hours with the answer I was looking for.

Now if I'm reading correctly these amps are just amps right? No processing board or any type of matrixing going on inside the amp. Seperate 7 amps into 1.

I wonder what type of upgrade that LPA-1 amp would give me over the built in amps on the HK635

Based on this review (and a few others I have read) they may have - or have had some quality issues going on with their pre-amps. They do have a decent warrantee so maybe you will be taken care of.

Just wanted you to be aware of it.

    I did yesterday.

    No reply yet.

Maybe they have to ask someone in China.

I'll probably go with the A21 anyway.

Class G and Class H refer to having whatever amplifier class you want (generally AB), but the voltage rails supplying the power will switch based on the music signal. If the music is low, there's a lower voltage rail used, and therefore less power consumed. Class G has seperate hard rails that can be switched between while Class H has rails that will dynamically change with the music signal. Basically, its a AB amp (generally) with much better efficiency.

I'm thinking they don't know the answer or they don't care that I know.

It's been a few working days and no reply. Oh well there was a slim chance that I would try their stuff anyway.
