I want to introduce myself to all of you. I am a new Club Polk member who just purchased a pair of SDA2b's with interconnect cable. After reading about the SDA's in the forums I decided I could not go wrong spending less than $200. on a pair. I currently have a pair of Monitor 10's with peerless tweeters which I bought around 1980 that were unused for 10 years but in great condition. Here is where I need some help. I have been away from the market for along time, and unsure of what I need/should have to enjoy these speakers and future updates. I am sure I am on the right path and don't want to screw up now. My current receiver is a Denon DRA375RD which is rated at 60 wpc @ 8ohms, .05thd and I was told by Denon that it is a common ground receiver. I also have a Polk PSW 140 Subwoofer. The CD player is a Denon DCM-360.
    OK here we go!
I know I need to upgrade the receiver and need suggestions. I'd like to spend around $400. to $500 on a receiver.
Can I use this receiver for now?
What should I do with the Monitor 10's?
    Is the subwoofer OK?
If using the 10's are an option as rear speakers what center channel will be a good fit?
On a personal note; I work at a golf course here in New Jersey that is owned by Donald Trump which is closed till March so I have some time on my hands. So this is one of the things I am doing in the off season. I have a wife and two children and they currently think I listen to music too loud especially when I get a budweiser buzz on. God only knows what the future holds. Thanks in advance for your advice.

    Welcome to CP!

The 2Bs will make good fronts and the 10Bs good rears for you. Polk used to have a spot on their site that gave recommendations for matching the older speakers to a center speaker but I haven't looked for it in sometime. I do remember a few they said were OK to use in general, CS350; CS400; CS400i. Used ones are only available now but for good prices. I'm sure there are others with more to suggest.

Your rcvr will be OK for now but don't expect too much performance out of the 2Bs with it. Not owning a rcvr in 25yrs+ I'm not into them or up on them and so not giving you recommendations on them. Plenty of others in here will cover that subject.

Welcome to Club Polk. . .I don't know, SDAs need a good bit of power to make them sing. I have a pair of SRS 1.2 TLs being bi-amped horizontally with two Adcom 565 mono blocks @ 300 wpc. I also have a CRS which I've never hooked up yet but have been advised to use no less than 200 wpc, so I would think the same would apply to your 2Bs. There is plenty of information on this site on SDAs. Use your search. Also if you really want to know about SDAs, you should consider purchasing Darqueknights SDA Compendium 2nd Edition. Click this link for more information.

Yes, this is an updated list of matches for the older Polk's.
I was trying to go by memory of an earlier list they had made which used a generation ago line up of centers that would probably be just a hair closer in age (yup, just a hair) and going used by now for very reasonable prices.

There are no pre outs on my receiver. I am going to purchase a new receiver soon. Maybe I should look into utilizing amp and pre-amp instead of a receiver.

I would go the separates route if you can afford it. What is the price range you are looking to stay in?

Default Finally picking up my SDA2b's

Well I am finally taking alittle ride to pick up the 2b's Sunday morning. I am thinking that I should purchase a 5.1 or 7.1 common ground receiver in the area of 100 wpc and run an amp through the pre-outs. Am I on the right track? I really need some suggestions. Do you think around $500 on a receiver and another $500 on an amp would do the trick? Or should I spend the $1000 a different way? I have my Monitor 10's for rears and the psw140 sub so the CSi5 will come after the power I guess. Thanks in advance for your help the njpolker

Where in new jersey are you from? I am from Hunterdon County. Thanks for the advice on the receiver and I am sure I will have more questions. Here is one now! Should I use the monitor 10's for rear speakers or should I not contaminate the SDA's sound? If that makes sence.

Look for an HK with pre outs. I am using an AVR-235 with adcom amps. I would concentrate on getting a good amp for the SDA's. They are 6ohms and take up to 350 watts. you really should look for an AMP that puts out 200 watts at 8 ohms. I'm partial to Adcom, especially the GFA-555 for SDA's. The HK AVR 235,240,245 are excellent receivers for use as a PreAmp. You could Also look for an Adcom 7500 that puts out 200 watts at 6 ohms which would definitely do you justice on the 5.1 system.

    I'm in Jersey City,

I use SDA 1C's as my mains, a CSi5 as the center, two Polk Dimensional Surrounds for the rear & a Sunfire sub. I think the 10's would be more than adequate for the rears.

In Stereo mode I use only the SDA 1C's & the Sunfire Sub. If the source material has too much bass then I use just the 1C's by selecting the "Pure Audio" from the Onkyo. This setting disables the sub and only routes the output to the mains.

If you're ever going to be in Jersey City, let me know, you can come by to Hear my system.

You're correct, Why should I limit myself to only 400Watts per channel!

    I think I will get (5) of these: http://www.bryston.ca/28bsst_m.html

    1 per each speaker.

1000Watts by 5, that should break my lease!

Default They are SDA2a's not b's

I just pulled one of the drivers and on the back it says MW 6510 which means they are 2a's and the innerconnects are blade blade. Am I correct in thinking this and does it really matter which model they are?
    Thanks again

    Default What the f, over!?!!?

I started reading this thread and got really confused. I could have swore that NJPOLKER had been around here for a while and couldn't figure if you were writing this for someone else or that maybe you had taken the red pill instead of the blue one.
The next reply was as if someone was playing along, at that point I got really sideways. I figured it must have been a slow day in NJ and we all wanted to do some type of flashback thing.
