Hdmi

Hello everyone. I purchased a new display a couple of weeks ago...DirecTV is coming next Monday to swap my dish and deliver a HD STB.

Is HDMI the only choice I have to get the most out of my display? If I use this cable, it is only to obtain the best picture I can get...my A/V receiver does not support HDMI so I will have to obtain my digital audio signal from an optical cable.

Do I toss out 80 bucks on HDMI or do I just use the way overpriced component video cables that I have right now?

In theory, component can offer a picture that is close enough to HDMI that you probably won't see a difference at sitting distance. However, most companies these days skimp on their DACs for their component output stage because they can.

Still, if you want HDMI for the mental sake of having the best connection, you don't have to spend $80 on a mon$ter cable, head over the Blue Jeans Cable or some other e-tailer and pick one up for around $20.

I notice a difference in picture on my DTV hr20 between Component and HDMI. HDMI is better.

Got this seller from another post. My one transaction with them was smooth. They respond well to email.

And an hdmi manual switch for $29.06, their cables are even cheaper, can't beat that :).

Edit: Just checked monoprice.com. I guess you can beat that. I don't have any experience with them tho'...

Monoprice is one of the best etailers I ever dealt with! I'd never hesitate to buy from them, good quality cables with good prices.

FWIW, I bought a set of Phillips component cables (6') from Wally world, $18. The picture thru them is beautiful. I also bought aan HDMI, 4' cable from Blue Jeans cable, $39. Nice cable as well.

Wally World has the Phillips HDMI for $37 as well. I don't know if it's the same quality, but it sure looks purty with those gold ends. :D
