    Default RM6800 v.6900

Why hello there, let me give any readers a forewarning that I am a definitive newbie when it comes to home theatre systems.

I decided it was time to upgrade from my Klipsch Promedia Ultra 5.1's, because i was sick of the sub dying twice a month. I've been shopping around, and the 6800 and 6900 seem to be very highly rated (and priced.)

My intent was to buy a home theatre system to use on my PC, because I heard theatre systems are much better than PC systems. But I'm kind of puzzled by the 6800 and 6900. I heard that both have pretty weak bass, the 6800 especially. I have to ask: is the extra pricing on the 6900 solely because of the more powerful subwoofer, or are the speakers better/different in any way as well?

Also, how can one upgrade the subwoofer? I heard it was possible - what are popular replacement models?

I've also been seeing a lot of talk about receivers ... are these necessary for PC audio, or just television?

Well, anyhelp with these overly basic questions would be greatly appreciated.

Klipsch is a real speaker company, so your Promedia Ultra set is alredy quite good if it's anything like Klipsch speakers I know. The PC systems from good speaker companies (like Klipsch, JBL, etc) should work better than others, and are designed for easy connection straight to PC since the amplifier is built-in.

That being said, good speakers will sound even better if you use a separate integrated amp or a reciever to drive them (yes, you do need one to use home speakers for PC audio).

Polk RM-series are very good for simple home theater setup. I set up RM6800 in my parent's living room, and they are very happy (the parrents, not the speakers). With RM6900 you get larger front sats with dual mid drivers and a larger sub, too, but I would not buy it for the sub alone. The packaged subwoofers are not the best, and you can replace the included sub should you want better bass.

Lots of information here on the forum; just run a search.
    Good luck.
    - Val
