Default Best Polk speakers for 2003 Chevy Cavalier

I have a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier with the stock factory CD stereo and stock factory speakers. I called my local Chevrolet dealer and they could not tell me what ohms the stock speakers are. Then I called Chevrolet customer service and they could not answer the question of what ohms the speakers are either. I have not looked at the stock speakers yet to determine what ohms they are if they are marked with such information.

I drive this car and hour and a half a day total to work and back home, so it's worth an upgrade. I would like to keep the stock factory cd player stereo and put Polk speakers in this car which are the correct ohms and will sound good with the factory radio. What Polk speakers will fit, be the correct ohms for the factory radio and sound the best with the low wattage factory radio?

    Thanks

    Mike

From my experience, upgraded speakers with the factory stereo doesn't do much. I've found better results from upgrading the stereo and keeping the factory speakers.
    YRMV.

Replacing the factory radio would open up all options. I just want fantastic sound that reproduces the sound of the music I play. I don't need an extremely powerful system because I'm not going to play music at very high volumes in my car. I would say I want something for reasonable volume levels with excellent soundstage and accurate sound reproduction.

    Thanks

Wow no more recommendations? I have narrowed it down to Polk speakers that I want to put into this Cavalier due to the excellent reviews they get and the best sounding stand alone speakers for home audio I've ever heard were Polks.

Is there a particular brand of stereo CD head unit everyone prefers to use with Polk speakers. Is a seperate amplifier a must in your opinion with Polk speakers and what brand/model of amp.

    I'm open to suggestions.

    Thanks

Well, you'd have a better response if you posted in the car audio forum further down the page.

    Hi Mike,

In most cases, car audio is 4 ohm impedance for speakers. Depending on the size of your speakers you are trying to replace, any of the Polk Momo range or the top end Polk SR Series will fit the bill. As you can see in my signature, I have a lot of Polk Momo stuff. I'd possibly recommend an amp as well (Polk Momo C400.4).

I also have a GM product in Australia (Holden) and only updated the factory speakers with some older Polk speakers (EX602a), utilising the existing Blapunkt head unit (no separate amp added). It made a WORLD of difference. On the latest INXS CD, Switch, track 4 Hot Girls has some really deep bass which in other car stereos you don't get to hear it unless you have a separate sub. With these EX602a's, you'd swear there was a separate sub .

Anyway, welcome to the club and the forums and you will learn a lot from these guys - if I want advice on anything audio / video, I go nowhere else :D .
