    Default in-wall speaker wire

I'm new to this site. Looking at pre-wiring my home for a 7.1 ht and wonder if the CL3 4 conductor wire is only for biwiring, or if it has another advantage over the 2 conductor wire (is it worth the extra $$?). Thanks.

    Welcome first.

Monster cable you could do a lot better. Check out www.bluejeancables.com they sell both 2 wire or 4 wire speaker wire. The advantage of 4 wire is that you run less wire the flip side you have different length of wire to each speaker. Something I don't wish to do so I use 2 wire, coiling the extra for one speaker so they both have the same length.

BTW there 12 gauge 2 conductor speaker wire the Belden sounds fantastic and just about night and day over Monster 2 wire in-wall I have temporary ran along the floor. This change is so great I need to recalibrate my rear surround speakers because of the difference in volume and highs tweets.

Thanks for the link. Would you recommend setting up a speaker plate with individual speaker connections, or use a gang style plate to run the wires directly to my amp? Also, what advantage does the 12 awg have over the 14 awg for my surrounds (FXi3's)? I'm not sure the extra guage is needed here. My rears will be in ceiling - any suggestions that won't break the bank?

Will not sure what you're paying for 14 awg but the 12 awg Belden is $.38 a foot not bad IMO. I was in HD and they what'd $.33 for 22 awg solid quad, old phone wire if you will. I needed some for some security wiring I'm adding to house. I had trouble paying $.33 when I got 12 awg speaker wire for $.38 a foot. End up buying the whole roll for $45 for 500' but the by the ft price OMG.

The end of it is your choice how ever you wish it to look in the end? Plate or free?

    BTW I know you're new....

But a wire can have a different sound to it. OK? The 14 and the 12 won't make a big difference, but the maker of the wire will.

In-wall just wire but yes a cool price for nice sounding wire. Belden makes nice wire almost too nice to burying in wall but nice.

I put some Monoprice 12g in my walls, it seems to be working ok. The 100'and 300' rolls is are stock, and if you're running in walls and ceilings, you'd be surprised at how fast you'll use it up.

For in-wall use I have been using this:

    http://www.accessories4less.com/cgi-...em/SQSCL1425WH

This wire is easier to pull through walls than any other I have tried. Very flexible due to the 105 strand build. They also have it in 4 conductor:

Guys, Wire is not wire, copper is not copper. There's a difference on how these speaker wire sound. So my word buyer beware. ;) Just because it's cheap and wire doesn't make it the best, unless cheap is what you want.

Really? What is it about your speaker wire that changes the laws of physics?

The wires I posted a link to are made just as well, as Belden. Actually, they have a higher strand count, and a better jacket for pulling through walls, so I dare say they are BETTER. And yes, I have used Belden, the sound is the same.
