Default Should I store albums inside cover or outside cover but under sleeve?

I've purchased a few albums online recently and one retailer or ebayer I can't remember asked if I wanted the album shipped inside the cardboard cover or outside. Then some of them automatically shipped the albums outside of the cardboard cover but inside the plastic album cover sleeve.

This made me wonder if I should be storing all my albums outside of the cardboard cover but inside the plastic album cover sleeve. I assume the album and the cardboard cover itself might incur less wear and tear by not trying to squeeze the album into the cardboard cover every time. If the albums are stored too tight or close together tho then the vinyl is probably better off inside the cover.

I have new plastic album cover sleeves and plastic inner sleeves for the vinyl itself but I haven't installed them all yet.

I'm pretty certain they ship them that way so the album doesn't blow through the side of the jacket. I've had a couple of people do the same when I've bought through the mail, and that was the reason one of them gave. Good question about storage once they get to the house, though.

I personally remove mine from the paper inner sleeve and place them in a new plastic inner sleeve alongside the original. That way I don't get dust on the vinyl, and I don't tear the original inner sleeve. I then usually keep both in the original album cover unless they are really tight, and place a plastic outer sleeve over the album cover.

About the only time I automatically store an album in the outer sleeve is if it is a double album set that folds in half. I have had a number of albums that warped due to the added pressure at the spine.

I also store mine in a new sleeve alongside the cover, all in an outer plastic resealable cover. It just feels right.

Very good point and a good idea. I'm sure that's why they do it but I wouldn't have thought of it unless it happened to me.
