    Is that Transformers HD DVD also compatible with regular DVD players? I've read that some HD DVD's have both the HD and regular DVD formats on them, but if it's HD DVD only then you need and HD DVD player.

    If that is true, then the player is reading the DVD signal, not the HD-DVD signal. You can't cross formats even if the medium looks the same.
