Default What's wrong with this list....?

I've been on Audioholics just a little bit ago and was looking at a "FAMILY ROOM" recommended system and was wanting to know from the Pro's what y'all think would be wrong with this.

    7.1 A/V Receiver: Yamaha RX-V2700
    7CH Amplifier: Emotiva MPS-1
    Mains: RBH Sound 1266-SE
    Center: RBH Sound 661-SE/R
    Side Channels: RBH Sound 44-SE
    Back Channels: RBH Sound MC-615
    Subwoofer: Axiom Audio EP500
    Universal DVD Player: Denon DVD-2930CI
    Karaoke DVD Player: RSQ Neo-E500
    Hifi VCR: JVC HR-VP644U
    Music Server: Yamaha MCX-2000
    56" RP DLP 1080p Display: Samsung HL-S5688W
    Power Conditioners (2): APC H15
    HDMI Cables: Impact Acoustics Sonicwave
Audio & Video Cables: Impact Acoustics Sonicwave
    Toslink: Impact Acoustics Sonicwave
    10AWG Speaker Cable: Bluejeans 10AWG w/Canare
    Acoustic Isloators: Auralex MoPADs
HD DVR: Scientific Atlanta HD 8300
Universal Remote Control: Logitech Harmony 890

Ya know just some food for thought and an attempt to kinda rack the ol' brain.

    What's wrong?

    1.- Yamaha processor
2.- RBH Sound? never heard of these
3.- More stuff you can have in two big racks
4.- No Polk in the list

    :D

I'd ditch the speakers and sub, personally. Not a fan of RBH or Axiom. Audioholics brainwashes its members into thinking that Axiom is some amazing product, when it really is not. And you'd probably save a few bones with Signal Cable HDMI cables vs Impact Acoustics.
The 2700 is also overkill if you are using a separate amp. Unless there's some special feature that only that level comes with (nothing comes to mind), you could save some decent change getting a lower-end receiver as a pre/pro. Enough to fund a BR-player even!

There wouldn't be since most of those quacks over there think that Polk is just your average run of the mill speakers with average run of the mill sound sold in big retail stores with the rest of your average run of the mill offerings.

I've heard RBH....to me, and a friend of mine at at store that sells them, they aren't that great. Looks nice...crap sound for the money. But that's just my $.02. (don;t mean to ruffle any feathers)

I like the other stuff, though. I don't know much about the cables, etc, but all looks good.

I looked around that forum for a while, and they really are mildly insane.......I could think of a lot better way to spend that much money than they suggested.....Just me. I think that Marantz makes a much better universal player than Denon, and most reviews seem to agree with me....Why buy a receiver AND an amp? Most decent receivers cost as much as a pre.......Why chase your tail? I have never heard most of the Polk line, but the quality alone would take me to them before I EVER bought from a company I have never heard of....I am sure although I have never heard a SVS sub, it would outrun the Axiom....I know my Sunfire Super Junior would eat it for lunch....I love my Samsung DLP......Gotta give them that. I'd go Signal Cable before Blue Jean, But that is personal preference....I love my Harmony.....Hit and miss I guess...

Well I guess since I posted it and looked it up and took the time to type all that, then I might as well post some criticism as well, huh? I'll just do it right down the list:

7.1 A/V Receiver: Probably trade out for a pre/pro maybe like the Anthem D2
7CH Amplifier: The Emotiva may be lacking so I think I would trade it out for a Sunfire TGA 7400 or Earthquake Cinénova Grande 7
    Mains: Polk Audio LSi15
    Center: Polk Audio LSiC
    Side Surrounds: LSiFX
    Rear Surrounds: LSi9
Subwoofer: Definitive Technology SuperCube Trinity Signature
Universal DVD Player: I would go with Denon but a higher level like the 5910CI or maybe even Marantz (since people like them better) DV9600
Karaoke DVD Player: What the hell?
Hifi VCR: Who the hell watches VCR?
Music Server: Dont know much about I'd prefer to listen to CD's but whatever floats your boat
    56" RP DLP 1080p Display: Samsung HL-S5688W
Power Conditioners: I dunno I'd go out on a limb and try APC people seem to like them better than Monster
HDMI Cables: ??? Not a big cables know-it-all
    Audio & Video Cable: Same
    Toslink: Same
10AWG Speaker Cable: Probably Bluejeans because people tend to say they're pretty good
Acoustic Isolators: Have no clue what I'm talking about
HD DVR: Probably whatever Charter (Sudden Link) would provide
Universal Remote Control: Probably stay the same cause I'm just now understanding a little about the remotes

The list is a definite improvement of the previous.

My edits for this time around:

The DefTech Trinity is $$$$$.... you'd be much better off going with an SVS Ultra for significantly less money.

If you're going to get a Denon DVDP, might as well have matching equipment! Run an AVR-2807 or similar.

You could check out PS Audio or even Belkin PureAV for some decent power conditioners.

Remote: Harmony is a great investment. If your components will be in closed cabinets, go for the 890. Otherwise the 560 or 880 will suit you fine. Trust me, you'll love the freedom and user-friendliness it provides (once you get it set up)

Josh's list is a big improvement. I totally agree with the "what the hell" comment on the Karaoke DVD (spend that money on good Polk speakers), and what the heck is a VCR? They left off the laser disc player. Sony makes a great 8 track I saw at the Salvation Army store the other day so you could add that in too!

With just those two additions, you have made a pretty big move in the price point they were shooting for. I am not sure what the price was going to be before these changes, but just the amp and pre-amp are going to run you $9,000-$10,000.

It may be in the same price class if you drop the TV and all the speakers. - not sure about the sound with no speakers, but it would look cool.

    Michael
    Mains.............Polk LSi15 (Cherry)
    Center............Polk LSiC (Crossover upgraded)
Surrounds.......Polk LSi7 (Gloss Black - wood sides removed and crossovers upgraded)

    Pre\Pro...........NAD T163 (Modded with LM4562 opamps)
    Amplifier.........Cinepro 3k6 (6-channel, 500wpc@4ohms)

That Denon Receiver is a beast, and ridiculously expensive. Do you really need 10.1 processing? Especially if you're running 7.1 at the very most with the amp listed.
The RBH's are still unimpressive. I don't know understand why you don't take anyone's input. The Velodyne's at least a decent improvement over the Axiom.

I'm unsubscribing to this thread after this post. Either listen to us, or stop wasting your time on this board and go drink the poison of the Audioholics forum. Bottom line is, they promote what finances their site. This site is financed by Polk, but you see plenty of support for other speakers. You do the math. Good luck.

I'm diehard Polk. I dont like RBH Sound or Axiom. I do listen to what everybody tells me. I just found all this one day while just browsing and being bored and decided hey let's see what kinda big Political Debate we can come up with. Jeez sorry to start a holy war it was all in fun and something to talk about.

It is amazing that when you search RBH audio, a lot of the google hits are for Audioholics... Interesting.

I don't believe anyone called them ****ty, just not their preference. I personaly never heard of them, so I won't judge them until I hear them.

I really don't see anything wrong with your list you have made up. I actually like the sub and receiver you have listed.

The Yammy 2700 is one nice receiver, packed with a TON of features and I think it sounds good too. The EP500 is a REALLY good sub, I'd even compare it to my PCU that I own. Nothing wrong with the choices you made really, just alot of that stuff is "stuff" that I wouldn't own.
