Default Tandberg Power Amplifier 3016 A

Ok all you amp gurus I think I want to bid on a Tandberg Power Amplifier 3016 A amp its 250wpc into 8 ohms 400 into 4 ohms. What do you think, should I or not? its going to cost me $150.00 for shipping so i figure I can safely bid $650.00 or so and feel good about paying $800.00 total. It sold for $3800.00 retail in 87 audiogon lists it it for $1120.00 used average. any experince with this amp or general thoughts oppinions whatever is appreciated.

I would avoid "I sold It" listings, they usually don't know anything about what they are selling, including whether or not it works.

    From the listing:
"This item has been powered on but not tested further. The item is being sold-as-is and can not be returned."

I once auditioned some Apogee ribbon speakers that were hooked up to Tandberg equipment. The 3016A wasn't having any trouble driving the low-impedance load. It was, in fact, the only amp the dealer had that could handle the load.

    Looks like a man's amp.

Of note: In the description it lists "Power Consumption 210 - 2500 W" and the power cord has a 20 amp IEC on the amp end. You'll have to have, at a minimum, a dedicated 20 amp line, preferably a 30 amp line. Just something to consider.

Thanks for pointing that out. I have a dedicated 20 amp now. no 30 amp at the moment though that I can use for it. But that doesnt mean that I cant get one lol.

It does look like though with 2500 watts max that it can handle almost anything that I could throw at it load wise. Its stable into 2 ohms 600 wpc continous which is good, not as good as a krell that doubles each time into 1 ohm but still pretty hefty.

But of course it doesnt cost like a krell either. I think I will fire off a ? to tandberg to see if parts are still available for this older amp in case it dont work if I bid and win.

Anything is a crapshoot these days on the bay but I spent quite a while going through this particular Isoldit stores feedback and it was suprisingly good, he has 9 negs in 6 months. 6 of them were by the same bidder lol and the other 3 were not that things didnt work when they arrived. of course if it doesnt work I will have an very attractive doorstop. :D :D

    Snow,

The 3K for TPA-3016A in the year 2007 seem a bargain now. These are very rare today and look how much this will fetch today.

I would say at least half of that price in the link if one ever pops up on ePray again.
