    Default Ohm Issues

I have question on how to get more out the amp I have to drive my sub enclosure. At present, the amp is running aat 4 ohms...500 or so watts RMS...not enough for the L7 I have connected.

The amp in question is a HiFonics Brutus 1606D that is claimed a single channel amp but has 2 pos/2 neg terminals for power output. Can I bridge these and reduce the ohm load to 2 ohms?

The sub enclosure I have is a Kicker 06-VS12L7-4 (12" solarbaric Dual 2 ohm VC's) I understand the driver is wired parallel...so this becomes a 4 ohm speaker?

Thanks in advance for any help on the issue. I am not so car audio savoy yet.

if each chanal is 2 ohms stable then they can be bridged but you must have a 4 ohm load. if your amp you have now is 1 ohm stable then you can rewire your sub for a 1 ohm load.

Nevermind...I'm such a dork. The speaker is in series...I need to wire it parallel to get the 2 VC's down to 1 ohm. Got it. Thanks at any rate.

The amplifier has two set of terminals to make installation of more than one woofer easier. It is still a monoblock. As far as power goes, be careful with the gains.....at 2 ohms it will throw out 1100 watts RMS, and 1600 watts RMS at 1 ohm.

My sub amp (1500xxk) puts out 1100 watts RMS at 2 ohms. This is obvioulsy way too much for my JL sub, so I backed down on the gains and use common sense witht the volume control.

It takes time, practice, and patience. But you can do it.

    No joke about the gain...

Overall, quite impressive for one sub. Thanks much!

dude... dropping from 4 to 1 ohm... you're going to pretty much quadruple your power... be careful, the shockwave of sound might blow your wee wee off.

Edit Note: --- be careful how loud you play it initially... if that amp does 1600 x 1 or something at 1 ohm, then you may be overpowering the sub and need to pull the gains back.
