PB12-Plus/2 and Avia DVD

Getting ready to take advantage of the overstock sale on the PB12-Plus/2 Piano Black. Im thinking about purchasing the Avia DVD and meter as well.

Some items have already been purchased, but here are my plans:

1. Has anyone found that the Avia DVD is outdated and not very useful for a 7.1 Home Theater?

2. Is this a good Subwoofer Cable to get from Blue Jeans: 35' - BJC LC-1 Subwoofer Cable?

3. Digital vs. Analog SPL meter, which is better for a complete ROOKIE?

The Avia disc is perfectly good for your setup. Any of the functions that you need for the 7.1 channels can/should be handled by your AVR, such as distance, level, etc..

The Avia test tones will be extremely useful in plotting your frequency response for your sub, whether you choose the analog or digital meter is up to you. I have a digital meter, but wish I'd bought the analog one. It would be easier to read a needle deviating from a set point than read the digital readout as it swings.

I have the digital SPL meter as well. Kinda wish i had the Analogue, easier to read deviations from a point.

That setup should rock, definitely have a great plan. I have the analog meter and it works great. Enjoy that setup, and the PB12 PLus 2 is no chump when it comes to bass. I might add that its huge, but a nice toy to own.

The digital meter has a line of lights at the bottom of the screen that indicate deviations; works for me. I guess it's a matter of getting used to it.

Working with test tones, the speakers are easy to setup with a sound meter but the sub is a whole new thing. How is everyone setting up there sub with a sound meter?

Run test tones from the DVD or built in test tones of AVR then adjust Speaker settings to achieve reference level, 75db from test tones in AVR, 85db if using DVD. Setting up the PB12 plus 2, simply turn gain on sub amp 1/3-1/4 way up(usually first or second notch) then adjust using the gain settings in avr to acheive reference level, pretty simple. You may want to run your sub a little hot, most of people on the forums do here anyway. You can also search the forums here and find some good info also on sub setup, etc.
