    Default DVD-Audio sources

Do any of you have good sources for these (although I just disconnected the 5 channel inputs on the amp)? I was at bestbuy this weekend and they had all but cleaned out their DVD-Audio and SACD.

cdbaby.com is an interesting source for independent music, but I don't think I've seen DVD-Audio there. The artists are lucky to have an outlet for their Cds!

    You can try the following:

One word about DVD-A. It's a dead format, SACD won the battle. However, CD is still winning the war.

Wrong. DVD-A and SACD had a battle, and the winner was iPod. ;)

As Jesse pointed out, there are plenty of outlets to get your SACD fix, and a myriad of great titles to choose from. DVD-A, I can't comment.

I stand corrected and sadly, I have to agree.

Isn't that amazing? Two hi-res formats duked it out, and the public chose near cd quality.

    Really think about that.

What is also interesting is that music downloads are becoming available now that are only CD quality (WMA lossless) and they are being marketed as High Definition Music by sites like MusicGiants.

Acousticsounds.com has about 250 DVD-A titles, and DualDisc titles as well. Some of the DualDisc titles (don't waste your money on DualDisc, they're not really high-res audio) are available as DVD-A titles as imports. The Talking Heads DVD-A titles fall in this category and are available from Europe.

If there is a return of high-resolution audio on DVD, it will be in the PCM format of DVD-Audio on HD-DVD or Blu-Ray discs. I don't see that happening because the technology exists to provide music downloads that exceed CD quality. As Jesse says, the DVD-A format is dead in disc format. However, once in a while a DVD-A will come out because a group or artist wants to use the format. As mentioned above Porcupine Tree is one band, and The Flaming Lips is another, that use the surround sound format of DVD-A for artistic reasons.

Not much to think about really. The GP views recorded music as background noise. God forbid they ever sit down and really listen.
