AVR Dead?

I have a Sony reciever that I have used for several years and came home from work the other morning and turned it on to listen to the radio and had no sound. It switches to dvd, cd, tuner,etc; and acts like nothing is wrong other than the no sound part. I even help my ear to the speakers with the sound all the way up and nothing. I reset it back to the factory settings and check all my connections and everything seems fine. Its just weird because it worked fine when I turned it off. I have since ordered a Onkyo to replace it with (dang the luck! :D ) but I would still like to maybe find out what is wrong with it and maybe use it somewhere else. Its the little things in life that bug me the most I guess ....Thanx!

check to be sure. you don't somehow have the headphone enabled... and that may be why you ain't getting sound. When the headphones are turned on.. it often times cuts the power to the speakers.
it's done me in before. ;)

Can you hear that second click that AVRs make after you turn them on?

Yeah it clicks and everything, the headphones aren't turned on... I tried all the settings, hooked things to different connections and speaker connections still nothing. I just think its kinda weird...Seems like it would have acted up or something..

2nd on the specker selection. Fooled me a couple of times.

Tried all the speaker selectors and still no sound....I guess it is just done..At least it got me a kitchen pass from the wife to get a new one...lol..Thanx for all your input!

open that sucker up and check for any burned out fuses.

Well, I finally had time this morning since I didnt have to work OT to check it out. I opened it up and all the fuses were fine. I looked all around inside of it and to my eyes there was nothing that looked suspicious. I tried a speaker in all the outputs and tried all the settings and found nothing. It powers up and switches and everything just fine but no sound. I did get my new Onkyo and got it hooked up and I must say it sounds great and the set up was cake compared to the Sony. Now I have to figure out what to do with it. Would it be worth to have someone look at it or would it be best to make it 7mm Rem Mag fodder??

Had the same problem with my bedroom sony avr, turned out I pressed the speaker selection button one to many times. Took me forever to figure it out, can be frustrating.

did you check to make sure you don't have it set to direct 5.1 in, or that the tape monitor is on. check those, and if it works you got the beginnings of another setup.(shh don't tell my wife, but I have the start of 4 different systems right now, just gotta find more speakers)
