Default My baby is finally back.........

    ...from being upgraded to Reference.

Looks pretty simple, doesn't it... but it doesn't "weight" simple....

It took a while but if reviews are half true, it will be worth the wait / investment.

Now, 250 hours of brake in :( :(

So for those of us not in-the-know with what you did with this... what all was getting upgraded, where did you send it, etc?

I bought this amp from George Daniel some months ago; it was the "normal" Belles 350a. Sent it to Dave Belles for the upgrade to 350a "Reference". Basically a complete circuitry change. The only thing that is still there from the original are the heat sinks and the top cover. The chassis was also changed (bonus) because the printing in the back of the original had faded. Since the face plate also changes, I asked for silver instead of the original black. That's the story.

What was the cost on that? It sounds like alot of work, would it have been cheaper to buy a new amp?

Upgrade is $1,500. I bought it for $1,350 (I tried to make George drop it fifty bucks but I think he laughed at me :)).

    New reference is $4,000.

I think so too; basically I got a new reference with 5 years warranty for the price of a used one.

Thanks W. I am really happy that you didn't buy it :)

I believe you are right. I won't say never, but after being with it for a while I can say it's going to be very tough (and probably expensive too) to find a better sounding amp. I'll keep this and one of my TAD-60's for a long time.

Wow!! Congrats Ric! Looks like you're pulling away down the homestrech.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

Ric you had me scheming last night as to how I could get the funds to purchase a really good stereo amplifier like yours. I would love to get a used Krell or something of the sort. I've got upgradeitis and every time I listen to my rig although it sounds gooooooood, I know I missing something.

Well if I sell my projector, NAD AVR, HT speakers, two sets of CRSs, a turntable, and a few other choice things I might be able to come up with the coinage to get me a truely high end amp to go with my high end preamp.
