Default Onkyo TX-SR703 vs Onkyo TX-SR604

After my old avr died I ordered the 604 and it should probally be here tommorrow, but after browsing around I seen that I could get the 703 for about $40 more. I know the 703 has a few more watts, has thx and lacks hdmi but hdmi isnt important to me. The 604 doesnt have pre outs where the 703 does. I have the rt1000i's, cs400i, and fx500i's but dont know if I would be in the market for an amp or not. I ordered from crutchfield so i can return the 604 if need be. I guess I just want to be sure I made the right decision. Any input will be greatly appreciated! Thanx!

I'd go with the 703 - better DAC's, pre-outs, and better amp section.

I just recently was comparing these two and others. From what I could tell the 703 would be the better choice especially if hdmi is not important. As appadv mentioned, better guts and the pre-outs allow you to expand whenever you want, which is nice. To me the pre-outs alone are big.

Well I got the 604 in and thought I would wire it up and see how I liked it. Its pretty sweet compared to the Sony I had. I chatted it up with Crutchfield pondering on wether or not to send it back and get the 703. The only major factor I came up with was the pre outs. The wife says if I want any kids then amps may not be such a good idea right now anyways...lol. I figure It will be a long time before I upgrade my speakers anyways and they sound great on the 604. It does work out nicely though since I didnt get the 703 so I can expand later I did finally talk her into a sub so all is not lost!! Thanx for all of your input I appreciate it!

if your wife is riding you about the amps, just stay with what you got, that 604 is a great unit for the price. its what I reccomended for my in laws looking for a reiever on a budget (got it on sale at crutchfield).

that reciever, with your speaker complement, is a more than solid set up. dont sweat it and just enjoy it.
