    Thanks guys; #4 is the one I originally had in mind when I decided to mix light and dark. I might still go with that one, but I am starting to like #7, as is or without the two planks on each side. #8 is also high on the list.

    I pick #8, would look sweet if you set up the room very symmetrically as well.

    #4 would work a lot better with the dark wood on the outside and the light wood on the inside, IMO.

    It's tough to choose based on those pictures, because the contrast is so high between the two colors. I think all but the most basic are all distracting and an eye sore. But with subtler color differences the more complicated designs might be actually nicer looking.
