I am assuming they are computer speakers?

If so, you need an audio driver for your sound card, not a driver for your speakers.

    Maybe I'm confused?

I know exactly what speaker you have. They come with hp computer. The HPs audio card has about a 2 watt out put and can drive these speakers. Most other computers, and sound cards have a line level output. You will have to find an amplifier of some sort to use them with your computer(some thing like a headphone amp might work.) Best of luck

Speakers them selves do not require drivers, unless they are a usb kind with a built in d/a converter. What type of computer/soundcard do you have?

if any thing you you would need a driver for your sound card. Plug the speakers in turn the volume controls all the way up on your computer, you should be able to hear at least a faint sound(if you have to put your ear right up to the speaker.) If you hear sound, you will need some sort of amplifier as stated above. If not you either need a driver for your sound card, a new sound card, or the speakers are junk. you can plug the speakers into your home stereo to test them. plug them into the headphone jack, you are most likely going to have to crank the volume to get any sound out of them.

Are you sure they're plugged in to the right plug on the sound card?

Can't hurt to download the latest drivers for your sound card while you're at it.

See if you can find a picture similar to your speakers on Ebay with search words: polk audio computer

Find some info about your computer by going to your desktop then right click on My Computer. Check the computer case for a model # which may be on the front or rear.

Default Polk audio speakers and Compaq Computer

I have a Compaq Pressario - SRI92ONX - and am attempting to hook up my Polk audio speakers. I have them hooked up but they don't work. When I went into the Control Panel, it indicated that I needed to put in a disc to activate them. I don't have a disc - can I download something from the website to make these work? Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated!

EarthDay and CindyCooke, Are you sure there is not a model number somewhere on your speakers?

If not, here's a link to google images for "polk computer speakers" . . .

    http://www.google.com/images?q=polk%...N&hl=en&tab=wi

. . . take a look and see if you can visually find them so someone here can attempt to help you.

Did these come with your computer? If not, did they have an instruction manual when you purchased them?

Inspired..CindyCooke revived a 3 year old thread--EarthDay never came back...

That being said--Speakers don't require drivers for any operating system. Of course I'm assuming we're talking about basic computer speakers that have an 1/8" mini jack on them, esp. since you already hooked them up. You need a sound card driver for your computer--
Here is a link to the Drivers for your computer
And here is a link to the sound card driver.

If that doesn't work, call HP/Compaq tech support and see if they can point you in the right direction.

Yep, I noticed that. I've not seen an OS in a long time where the speakers didn't just work hwne plugged in.

Visiting My Computer / Properties / Hardware / Device Manager / Sound, video is always a good idea too.

CindyCooke Welcome to CP. You must have used the "search" function to find this old thread. Double check your connections; esp. the sp. out on your sound card make sure you are not using a Mic in or head phone jack. Also just to be sure since we don't know what speakers you have, most are powered speakers so check the power to the speakers as well. Can you post exactly what the message is that you are getting, or google the message and see what you get.
