Default Hi End Music Systems you've seen in Movies / TV

I'm sure a thread like this has been done somewhere, at some time, but my system is down at work and I'd rather recycle a fun ongoing thread than have to read and respond to AnthonyDee and THX's posts for another day.

Without further ado, here are some recent HiFi spottings I've seen in movies / TV. . .

American Psycho - KEF (104.2 or something) with I think HK separates
Friends - Martin Logan Stats early, then MiniPod Blue later
What Women Want - BluePicker's Revel Gems
Italian Job - I remember the guy talking about a dream hifi system, can't remember what it was he got

Then, here's a whole list of McIntosh spottings (did some research and found they were listed online already):

9 1/2 Weeks - MC2155 closeup of one meter and countdown numbers.
As Good As It Gets (1997) starring Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt
What Lies Beneath (2000) Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer
High Fidelity (2000) John Cusack and Stephen Frears
    The Grateful Dead movie
Pillow Talk (1960) Doris Day and Rock Hudson. C-8 preamp. Can only be seen in the wide screen version.
Stepford Wives (remake) Nicole Kidman. MC2000 can be seen.
The Departed (2006) Jack Nicholson, Matt Damon and Leonard DeCaprio
Executive Action (1973) Burt Lancaster and Robert Ryan. MX110

In The Departed, Matt Damon's character had a wicked all McIntosh set-up.

nevermind: see it's already on your list:o
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

Yeah, a wall of McIntosh gear.

Like the girlfriend would know how to use it, tho. Movies are so unrealistic :)

that system in Italian Job wasn't really a high end system. I think it was a NAD setup...

As for The Italian Job, it was A NAD Receiver(I do not remember the model #) "Plays so loud that it blows womens clothes off"

    Movies:
Love Potion #9 (Tate Donovan, Sandra Bullock) I do not remember the system but I think it was a Conrad Johnson. The hooker told her pimp that it must be worht thousands, so they conspire and do steal it.

Boogie Nights (1997) - I rememeber the drug dealer had anice analog set up and kept playing Rick Springfield ver and over.

Traffic: The Mexican drug dealer/Assasin was telling the General that he was an audiophile and all his friends did not understand, he then said that he had a pair of B&W's.

Great thread as I just watched American Psycho and wondered what Bateman had.

In the Italian Job if I remember correctly he has Martin Logan speakers.

The original, Internal Affairs, had much more audio exposure. The bad cop was shopping for, and bought a tube pre, tube amp and I believe a tube CDP from the undercover cop. Later on he and his gf were sitting on the sweet spot listening how it sounds...

I've always owned and loved that movie. Last night when I was watching it was the first time I thought to look closely at the speakers and components.

I picked up on the Kef's since I bid on similar ones on ebay not long ago. The system I thought was Acoustic Research as it was white / black, but read online it was HK.

    The Conversation

Gene Hackman has mono tube gear. He plays with the music with his horn. Won best audio I think at the Acdamy Awards. One of the most underrated movies ever. A delight for audiophils because it's all about audio taping. Also a plot that will keep you guessing.

In an episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, the Mooninites steal a pair of Polk RT2000's from Carl. And in the movie, Carl has a newer model Harman Kardon receiver in his "rig".

I think the mooninites steal the polks from a store, meatwad absorbs them into himself. They steal Carl's dresser and porn if I recall correctly.

In a few of the episodes you can see Carl's equipment, in the one where the power goes out you can see it close up. It looks like he has a HK receiver and a Onkyo receiver.

You're right. My bad. I'm going to have to bust out the collection tonight. And now that I think of it, it wasn't in the movie that I noticed the HK... it was in a 4th-season episode. Probably there all along.

Great movie and excellent performances, especially from C. Bale. Nothing like blasting Huey Lewis while hacking up someone.

    I prefer The Cars.

Heh- even my wife noticed the McIntosh gear in the Departed.

BTW, does anyone know what the speakers are in House's office? The turntable is definitely a Sota & there have been some w/ him using Grado headphones & the pilot had Martin Logans, but I have no idea what the current speakers are.

In the TV show House M.D. he has a Sota turntable hooked up to a set of speakers that I have no clue what they are. I know the turntable is a Sota for sure because they reference Sota in the credits of the show.

He also had what looked like McIntosh gear in his apartment. There looked to be a reel-to-reel player in there too. The only good look I ever got at his stereo rack was when he left the apartment unlocked and someone ganked all his gear. But the tape player and amplifiers were gone so I didn't get a good look at them. They mostly focus on his musical instruments.
You're just jealous 'cause the voices don't talk to you!

Here in California, we have a public service announcement that featured a teenager with a pair of Grado headphones.

Old ass thread, but watched Jumper and saw what looked to be a sweet Meridian system.

Also wanted to comment that Hayden Christiansen might be one of the worst actors of our generation.

On a episode of 'Cribs' from 2006, Carlos Mencia had his HT outfitted with Polk RTi's.
    Don't know if that counts.

Thanks Sami for bringing that up. As I was reading this thread I kept thinking "What movie had all that Tube gear in it?" I just could not remember it.
