    Default Power cord question

I've got my vintage Fisher-500 open today doing a little tinkering. It still has the orignal brown lamp cord plug in. Would it be a good idea to replace this with a modern 3 prong? I have some hefty computer server cords I could hack the female ends off of and use. I don't want to spend a bunch of money.

If for nothing other than safety, yes.

provided the amplifier you're working on had an OEM power cord equal to or smaller than 18 awg in thickness (18 being the standard computer PSU conductor gauge), then go right ahead... solder the hot and neutrail rail, and then take the green ground wire from the PSU cord and solder or bolt it to the chassis/casing of the amplifier, as electronic repairs require the addition of casing/chassis ground, should the power cable be repaired or altered (at least in the US).
