Default hooking up sub with two speakers - old stuff

I want to add a subwoofer to my two ch system... and i'm not sure I can figure it out.

I have a Kenwood pre amp and a NAD power amp.. and I want to add a subwoofer into the mix.. for some reason my brain isn't working right this morning.

Do i run a RCA cable out of the pre amp into the subwoofer, then connect the speakers to the subwoofer? that seems logical, but I'm not sure if it's the right way to do it.

this is all old stuff.. so my pre amp doesn't have a sub out on it... and I can't change the speaker size to large or small.

Run a Y cable 1-Male 2-Female RCA's. hook Male RCA to sub out of the AVR and just plug the M/M RCA's to the sub's and to the Y cable female ends.

Al, does the Kenwood have 2 sets of preouts? If so, just run a set to the subwoofer, and start twistin' knobs. If you only have 1 set of preouts, feel free to use a y-splitter.

Forget the speaker (high) level connections for your application. If you wanted to, you wold run the speaker cable from your NAD to the sub, then additional speaker cable out from the sub to your speakers. I say forget it, because depending on the sub, it may have some built in filtering you don't want on your speakers.

Or - say that gobbly gook engtaz wrote 3 times fast while eating a fistfull of cookies and wearing a red cumberbun.

engtaz, thanks.. but my stuff is old skool late 70's gear.. it's not an AVR and has no sub pre out's.

Russ, I only have one set of pre outs on the Kenwood. so it looks like a splitter would work great here.

    thanks
