Default Component Video turns TV RED?

    Please HELP!

When I connect my DVD to my TV with a component video cable, the picture becomes various shades of RED (not too fun to watch :( ). I would think this is due to hooking up one of the 3 cables wrong, but I've checked them a dozen times and tried a different cable with the same result.

Does anyone know what's causing this or how to fix it? Is it possible one of my terminals is colored wrong?

I have also tried component video from DVD to receiver and HDMI from receiver to TV to take advantage of a claimed "upconvert" feature...I get no picture with this option.

Make sure all cables are fully seated and the right colors are matched. Allot of people mix up green and blue.

Switch progressive off (or on if it's currently off)

your second part, it won't work. Most receiver connectivity require you to connect in straight path (i.e. if you start with component from source to AVR, then you need component from AVR to TV, and also applies to HDMI). You can't mix them, especially between HDMI (Digital) and Component (Analog).
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

On the DVD player? I don't seem to have that option.

It is supposed to upconvert video signals via the monitor out jack, but I see your point with the jump to digital. So it could probably only upconvert s-video to component, but not to HDMI.

You also can check that your DVD player is set to Component out (may be YUV, YPbPr, YCbCr for the output) in the set up menu? Worth a look?

    Thanks for all the responses.

OK, so I've got it working with s-vid from dvd to avr and component from avr to tv via the upconvert monitor out. I guess this is the best quality video I can get until I buy a dvd player with HDMI?

the good news...it's not the cables

the bad news...still don't know why it didn't work going component from dvd to tv

Any time you get a prominent color with component cables it is because the cables are swapped or open/not connected. How do you know the component cables are good?

    Good Luck

The cables are good, because I now have it in use from the avr to the tv. It only seems to have the problem if I use it from the dvd to the tv.

what kind of DVD player are you using? it may have a bad component output RCA

there is a nice difference in PQ using component over S-video. but at least you got it working. that's the big thing.

I have had the same problem when I hooked up my brand new DVD player via component to my TV (worked via S-video). You need to go to setup menu of your DVD player and set output to either 'component progressive' or 'component interlaced'. Basically, switch output from S-video to Component. Worked for me.
