    Default SDA's for Home Theater?

Early planning stages (probably won't break ground on the addition for 6-12 months). One of the add-on rooms will be an approximate 18' x 22' dedicated home theater. Planning for a 10' wide (14' in 2.35:1 scope mode via anamorphic lense) acoustically transparent screen. My current SDA-2's will be the mains behind the screen. I'm picking up a pair of SDA-2A's this week (craigslist local - $160). Questions:

Use ONE of the SDA 2A's for the center?
(What to do with the other one?)

Use both SDA 2A's for the center (potential problems with wave cancellation/lobing effect)?

Maybe lay them on their side atop one another to line up the mids and passives vertically to eliminate horizontal wave cancellation?

What to drive these with (considering replacing my Yamaha 2070a with an RX-Z9 or it's replacement with HDMI capabilities).

I could be talked into Outlaw pre-processor and 7-way amp as well - opinions?

LSI/FX as side and rear surrounds?

    Which SVS sub?

So many questions - trying to set budget.

Welcome to the Club Polk Forums movtarget!

I'd use the 2A's as rear surrounds if you have the room. I wouldn't use them as a center, such as waste:( Use a LSiC or a CSi40 for the center. I use SRS 2.3's for my fronts and SDA-2's for the surrounds, CSi40 for the center. I think it sounds great. Good music speakers will make good HT speakers, but not vice versa. Use the 2A's in another two channel setup if you don't have the room.

I'd say the NSD-12 series of SVS subs would be fine. If you want a lot of bass, get a 12-2 sub, or a Plus series sub.

Good luck and welcome to the Forums!

One of your best bets would be a SDA CRS for your center. I use a CSi5 and it works real well with my 2B's. I have also heard that a Monitor 5 works well.

I tried the LSiC and took it back with in 12 hours. It is a great center channel but it just did not match up well with my system.

Welcome. Great start by the way. Stick around these guys know their stuff.

The problem with a CRS for the center is that the SDA speaker is not playing at the same level or phase of the stereo speaker.

SDA speakers are really not designed for Center channel.

My bad. Sorry. I know that I have read that someone was using one or more CRS.

    Carry on.

I used a pair of CRS+'s as centers for and SDA HT rig. Worked OK for me.

    TroyD,

When you used the CRS+ pair for Center, did you use the interconnect, and how far apart did you have them set? Notice any frequency gaps or muddy voices? Thinking about the wave cancellation effect, and are the SDA's with interconnect the magic pill to solve wave cancellation if placed properly.

I have 1C's as my fronts and 2's as my rears. I bought a Polk CS400i Center channel and have been VERY happy with my HT setup. I think the CS400i is a good match and you can use your 2's for the rears.
