    Default Strange subwoofer noise....

I have a quick question that maybe you guys can help me with. I have the euipment listed below in my signature. when I first turn on my receiver and either a cd or DVD first begins playing, I get a strange noise from my sub. The best way that I can explain it is that it sounds like high pitched scratching sound. It lasts for only a second and it nevers happens again until I turn everything off and turn it back on again. It does not happen during movies, cd playback, etc. I have about a 30 foot run and am using a monoprice sub cable that was highly recommended. I have had the same set-up for about a year and I just noticed this maybe a month ago. Any suggestions (besides buying an SVS)?

    Thanks in advance,
    Shawn

Check a few things first. All your connections, includeing the power cord and the pins where it plugs into on the back of the sub.Have you tried useing a different socket to plug it into?Could be picking up something on such a long run.Have you tried a 2.00 cheater plug? The fact that it only happens on powering up or off says it's a ground loop issue or a connection issue.Could also be a loose wire inside by one of the connections.Check it out.

This has happened to me before as well. If it were just during a DVD or a CD, I would say that it's because your system isn't really built for handling music/movies. Like, my system is primarily for music, and it sometimes acts up when I play a movie with a lot of action sequences (and a lot of hard-hitting bass sequences). But, I don't know what to tell you other than that...

I don't think my system is the culprit considering that it worked for over a year with no problems. I have been having some electrical issues in my house and am in the process of replacing the outlets. I will get a cheater plug and see if that works as well. I asked the guy at the hardware store if they carried them and he looked at me like I had three heads. Do they go by another name?

    Thanks for the suggestions.
    Take Care,
    Shawn

Lets see,ask for a plug that turns a 3 prong one into a 2 prong one.A ground lifting plug.
