    Default $809.00 for a ghetto blaster. who knew...

    randomly i decided to run ghetto blaster through ebay and got 46 hits - which is about 45 more than i expected. i figured we'd gotten too politically correct and hadn't heard the term in years. anyway, at the top of the heap was this toshiba wx-1.

    I remember that thing! A kid down the street from me, his older brother had one. Then again, his older brother was a known drug dealer and he had lots of stuff including 3 Corvettes, two sport bikes and all kinds of jewelery. He used to sit out in his driveway with that thing and blast music all day and all night long while his friends rode their skateboards and smoked pot on the half pipe he built in his front yard. They were not cheap (as in expensive) those ghetto-blasters, not cheap at all.

    I had a Hitachi similar to that. Not quite as big, but close....Dual cassette decks, AM/FM, the whole 9 yards. Bigtime for 5th grade!

    My cousin and this kid in my neighborhood kept compeating to see who could get the biggest one. It was pretty exciting back then!, I think it was like 1979 through 1982. I think my cousin's took like 14 D batteries, LOL

    You guys haven't been to the Boombox Museum?

    I am still waiting on Sony to produce the Boodo Khan boombox (named after the ultimate Sony Walkman). Check out those APM speakers with the extra thick rubber surrounds for the pound bass.

    I had one made by Magnavox, it had all the cool lights on it, with the extra wide shoulder strap. Pump up the Run DMC please.

    Wow, that Boombox museum just brought back a ton of memories. Allot of older guys I partied with had some of the boomboxes on there. Thats crazy.
