Default Model 10 vs. RT 1000P speakers

I purchased a pair of Polk Model 10 speakers 27 years ago and I have the opportunity to pick up a pair of RT 1000P pretty cheap. My 10's still sound as good as the day I purchased them.

    Which is the best speaker?

    My 2 cents:

I too have the Model 10 speaker. I also have a set of RT800i's.
I prefer the Model 10. The RT800i is a very nice speaker. The Model 10 is a speaker model with a very nice/warm/great sound.

If it is an upgrade, it is a very minor upgrade. You would probably do better by upgrading to a quality 250 wpc amp for your existing Monitor 10's.

Music=Monitor 10 especially if you have the peerless tweet or upgraded RDO, btw the 7 is just as highly regarded and some put it above the 10 and they do have a good point about the driver placement on the 10's.

Home Theater=RT1000p, I would say by a good margin, I still use a pair of rt1000i for my back surrounds.

I have never heard the 10's but I have the RT1000p's and I do not like them for music.
Good for HT but not music IMO.

    Welcome to the club btw.

Thanks for your responces. The deal was too good, so I hooked the 1000p to work with my TV and DVD and hooked the old M 10 up in my bedroom for the music. ( Thanks goodness my bedroom is large enough to handle the big bulky m 10. I just couldn't part with them.) I did place them side by side using the A & B speaker switch and the music was so much "fuller" with the old M 10, especially, when I used the stands with the proper spacing.

The 1000p look so much nicer with my new large screen HD setup and the music is still very good for my old ears.

Therefore, a win - win situation. I am stilled marveled at how good those 27 year old M 10 sound.
