At six in the morning? You planning on going out like the King?

    Yes, it is.

It's a little pricey to replace my daily driver (Makers Mark) but it is awfully tasty.

One of my MP3 cds for the car has a couple of the "Kings" songs, I'll be sure to listen on the way to work this morning.

Has it really been 30 years? I remember the day I heard on the news; I was 11 years old at the time and just remember the outpouring of sadness.

"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. Differentiation by numbers is for those who do not".--Nelson Pass

Time to bust out my minty Elvis R-D box set on vinyl. Don't think I've actually listened to them since I wet cleaned the set last winter.

I remember the day vividly. I lived in Memphis and my mother and father were in the music industry. My mom sent me to every newspaper machine in the area to buy up all the Commercial Appeals and Memphis Press-Scemitars(sp?). It was a sad, bizzare day to say the least.....especially if you lived in Memphis at the time.

I remember when it happened...the closest thing to it since has been the death of Princess Diana but I think that the passing of Elvis had an even more profound effect on people.

Guess I'm too young. Wow, did I just say that?
He had a huge impact on modern music in America.
Didn't do much for me, but it opened the door for a lot of
artists that would have gotten buried by the anti rock crowd.
I lived in Memphis for about a year. I did see Elvis's last
Christmas display. I left about a month before his death.

+1 What PM & Fireman said.

I was 16 at the time when it was announced, and his hayday had come & gone by that time so I really didn't see the big deal. Especially when I found out how he died! I thought it was a waste.

While he may have had an impact on music, I don't consider him anything special with his talent. I only like about 3 of his songs.

I was too young to remember his passing. However, I've always heard things about Elvis from my mom....she still watch those TV commercials of his latest CD compilation. Partially from her, I became a fan. Not a fanatic though.

    Today's pick....

He was only 42. What a shame, I think he had a lot left in him. Look at Mick Jagger, Tony Bennett or dozens of other performers who continue to have great careers after age 50.

    Then, there is Paul McCarthy.

    No worries guys..
the King just sold me some beef jerky and pumped my gas at the local 7-11.

He told me to say "hi".
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore
