Default polk lsi 15 vs paradigm 60's v.4

now i realize this is a polk forum. but just wondering if anyone has compared the two speakers. the polks (on sales at jr) with an amp and no amp for the 60's. any thoughts would be appreciated.

Lsi are better for music. Good amplification is a must.

The studio 60's are easier to drive with HT receiver.
Bit on the bright side. I have a set of studio 60's v2 running
in my 2 channel with a tube amp. Tubes really bring out their good side.
I would just get the 40's and get a good sub with the extra money.

How will they be used? Mostly music or HT?

they will be used 70%ht/30%music. yes i am planning on getting a sub. i like towers better than book shelves on stands. what is the diff btw tube and power amps.

Tubes give a different, warmer sound than solid state.
For 5 or 7.1, not practical, too costly, too much maintenance.

If you go for an LSI setup, better plan on a HT receiver with preamp outputs
and separate amps. Even with the Paradigms, better go big or stay home on the HT unit you use. Do a search on this website, and you'll find plenty of info.
The biggest problem most people have is most HT receivers are waaaay
    overrated on their power specs.

is the adcom 7705 or the rotel 1095 powerful enough. i have been looking at outlaw, parasound, arcam, emotiva, carver, sunfire and others that everyone has mentioned. but my problem is the depth in my entertainment center. i would prefer not to cut another hole in the back of the entertaiment center ( i already did so to fit my onkyo 805). a painful process.

I have a B&K. Their newer models (anything built late 90's to today) have internal heat sinks, and they are pretty short depth-wise.

Carvers also are pretty short depth-wise.

I would check out some B&K stereo amps on Audiogon for those Lsi15s. Maybe the 200.2 or 2200, or 2240, or something.

+1000 - If you're going LSi you need to be factoring additional amps into your equation. Adcom, Rotel, outlaw, parasound, arcam, emotiva, carver, sunfire, whatever; (our view) high current power (200wpc or more) is what the LSi's like. It also sounds from your comment that you've got your gear (stack) in an 'enclosed' type of case; we'd urge you to be sure there is plenty of available air for circulation (if there is disregard the following). Onkyo AVR's get pretty warm when they're on/taxed, and the same will probably be true of amps you may add. Just our $.02. Good luck with your setup, and most importantly; enjoy yourself!

I have to agree with most everything said on this thread, except the high power. The Lsi's require quality power, 200 wpc don't mean squat. Give me a quality 40 wpc tube amp, or a quality 75watt SS amp and they will drive the Lsi's just fine.
However, since you're going with 70% HT, you might find the P-dimes a better fit and the Studio 40's and and HSU or SVS sub would be a fine match.

thanks for your thoughts. yes i know the 805 runs hot. i bought 3 fans to place in my e/c. i left about 6" for height and the hole i cut in the back seems to be working. the a/v has yet to get hot to the touch (lucky me compared to what i have read).

I will check out the carvers and the b&k's.

I currently have my LSi15's on a Carver TFM 45 (same as the TFM 42 and m4.0t) either of those will make the LSi's sing pretty nice.
