    Question Dust caps pushed in

A pair of SDA's have some of the dust caps pushed in on the mid's. Will this affect the sound of the speakers? Should I be wary of purchasing them? Thanks for your opin.

    Hi Michael,

Most people here will state that it does not affect the sound. I might agree with them maybe 90%. Think about those perfectly created sound waves that Polk claims are created with their drivers. Now think about a pushed in center cap, what will that sound waves look like?

On my speakers the 3 drivers that had pushed in center caps bothered me so much that I could not enjoy the music with them there. So I replaced them.

Take a piece of duct tape and try to pull them back out. I did that with mine and it worked but they were wrinkled.

    Welcome to the Forum!!!

You can replace them, but as Lasareath said first try using some duct tape to pull them out. If that still doesn't work double-sided tape usually works well.

An L-shapped paper clip can be used to pull dented dust caps.
Puncture (very small) the fabric of the dust cap and feed the "L-shape" inside - very carefully. Then, give it a gentle tug to "pop it out".

I did this on a used pair of Baby Advents and they popped out and the puncture was virtually not noticeable.

What a stupid idea! The tape trick works and you don't end up with a hole in your dust cap. DUH!!!

Tape trick doesn't always work F1nut. If it did, then it would be a non-issue.

That would be because you're using that socialist tape sold in Paris.

This bridge is taller than the Eiffel tower. And, not an inch of dust-cap-pulling-tape on the entire structure.

F1nut, please elaborate. What is a "horse"? I am familiar with many french cars including: Mercedes Smart, Renault Scenic, Peugeot, etc... but have no idea what a "horse" car is?

French version of the VW would be the Citroen. A very quirky but well-loved car.
