Polk Momo MMC 650 vs MMC 6500

This is my first post here, so let me first thank you guys for all the info.

My stuff:
Alpine Head Unit 9883
Boston Acustics Amp (55x2 rms)
Front Door Speakers - Deciding based on this post

I am trying to decide between the MMC 650's coax's and the MMC 6500's components in the front doors of my car. Has anyone heard these side-by-side? Is there a real difference in sound quality?

I know most people say that components have better sound quality, but it appears there are only two differences between these two speakers:

1. 6500's external crossover is adjustable while the 650's is not. (and perhaps 6500's is better quality)
2. The flexibility of positioning the tweeter on the 6500 components

I can use my head unit and/or my amp to account for the non-ajdustable crossover on the MMC 650's. Also, my factory speaker locations are high up on the door, so I believe the tweeter location of a coaxial will be just fine.

As you can see, I am leaning towards the 650's, but I can defeinitely be convinced otherwise.

Any help would be appreciated :).

Thats about the only differences. The components in the crossover will be a little better than the MMC650's but not by a whole lot.

The main benefit is being able to mount the tweeter where you want it but if youre not interested in that, get the 650.

I have the MMC6500 and the MMC525 (they're just like the MMC650 but smaller). To be completely honest there isn't a huge difference. However, I do like the adjustments on the mmc6500's crossover.

Thanks MacLeod and Black Magic! It looks like the MMC650 is the way to go right now. I guess if I feel i need an upgrade after trying them, I can always move the 650's to the back doors and get the signature reference series in the front doors. I just can't afford those right now.

Yup, because theyre unauthorized. You get no factory warranty and you cant be guaranteed that youre not getting remanufactured, refurbished or out right knock off stuff.

Yeah. I will buy kits and wires from Sonic, but I am a little leary of the bigger purchases.

Believe it or not, Crutchfield is cheaper than Car Domain right now and almost the same price as Sonic with the free shipping. They got buy 1 get 1 1/2 off, too bad I only pplan on buying one pair. See link:

Well. I got the Momo 650's installed in the front door. They sound awesome. I had a pair of Focal 165 V2S's in a previous vehicle with the same head unit and amp. The Polk's are much more to my liking....super laid back, the music floats through the air and sounds "alive". And for less than half the price of the Focal's, I am more than pleasantly surprised.

Also, I am glad I did not get the componenet MMC 6500's. I can't imagine those speakers sounding much better in my vehicle.

Thanks for the honest repsonses and thanks for saving me over a hundred bucks.

Now I can have extra $ to find the right subwoofer! 300 watts RMS at 2 ohms.
