    Default In-wall wiring and plates

Sorry if this question has been asked before...tried to use the search, but couldn't find anything...

My question is on wiring. Iím installing polk in wall speakers in my new house that is being built.

This is my first DIY home theater...I need to know what gauge speaker wire to use and how to connect everything using wall plates, banana speaker connecters, HDMI through wall plates, and stuff like that.

I canít find anything that teaches you how to wire a system together. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Iím perfectly capable of wiring things, I've wired several houses for basic electricalÖI just need to know what parts to use. Especially for connecting my speaker wires from behind the wall, through a connector plate of some kind, using banana plugs (I guess) to make everything nice and neat.

    With gratitude,

    Jason

www.parts-express.com for your wall connectors. Unless your runs are over 75 feet 14 guage wire will be just fine, you can get this at parts express as well, although you can use 12 guage if you like or 16-18 for short runs. I have used 14 guage with 4 conductors and then tied them together at the speaker and wall plate/processor.

The Dayton Audio banana plugs work well with there wall plates.

be sure to use performance enclosures for your in-walls, also the Polk's stud lock mount is a nice product.

Let us know if you need anything else to get going.

If a builder is doing things they are going to want wiring with a CL-3 rating to go in the walls.

Just FYI - The performance enclosures are not available for every Polk Audio in-wall loudspeaker.

    Yes, good point.

you can take a look at these. http://www.polkaudio.com/education/t...icle.php?id=29

If not available then I would recommend building some out of mdf, however, since its new construction I would get some that do, some of the Polk In-walls have the speaker already in an enclosure which mounts inside the wall with the Stud Lock, others you put the enclosure in first then the speaker slides into it, in any event not using some sort of enclosure with any In-Wall or In-Ceiling speaker will limit its performance in a not so nice way. If your serious about the sound you want out of them then I would not recommend skipping an enclosure.

A Google search will turn up a huge amount of excellent data. Try 'in-wall speakers'.
