    Default Dead Subwoofer Poll

My beloved Velodyne SPL 1200 Series II died. I dont know exactly when it passed, but it is no longer with us. :(

In any case, I am considering a few options; please help me make up my mind which direction to go. Thanks!

How about cost analysis for each choice? Somewhere along the line money has to come into it. My rule is generally if a repair or modification to continue use exceeds 50% of buying a new one I will buy new.
    The Beloved System:
    Parasound Halo P3 Preamp
    Parasound Halo T3 AM/FM Tuner
    Grant Audio Tube Buffer

Harmon Kardon T45 Turntable w\ Benz MC 20E Phono Cartridge
Vincent Phono Preamp (not enough gain in the Parasound Phono In)
Cambridge Audio 640C V2 CD Player
    Nakamichi BX300 Cassette Deck
    Polk RTi 12 Main Speakers

Although I agree with jimmyzen that money has to fit somewhere in the equation, I voted to buy the SVS you've always dreamed of. My Plus/2 is the best audio purchase I've ever made.

you only live once, so buy what you want and enjoy it! Its not like the SVS prices are going to go down if you wait a month or even three.

I hear that. But money is tight, I have to wait to "cash out" vacation time in December. Its a long time to wait, I know, but it'll be my little present.

    For what its worth...

I plan on buying a new SVS in December.

I called Velodyne and they informed me it is a flat rate of $230 to repair the amp. Well, depending on what the problem is, that sounds like a calculated risk. But I'm beside myself looking at a speaker I pad $1k for collecting dust. So, I decided to fix the Velodyne as well. They asked me to remove the amp panel from the unit, disconnect the wires and send it in to them with the RMA ($10 shipping UPS).

So come December I'll have two subs (assuming the Velodyne lasts 3 months after repair ;) ) - I don't know whether I'll run both in the theatre room, or move the one or the other to 2-channel backup use (and the likely candidate there will be the Velodyne given its sealed enclosure).

    Thanks again for the information!

Final Update: The turnaround time from Velodyne was lightning fast. My amp was returned within 8 working days (delivery time is two days each way economy). I just now got around to installing it, testing it with The Police (DTS Audio) followed up with the movie The Number 23.

I don't remember it ever kicking so hard.

I'm happy again, but still eye-ballin the SVS.
