Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service.
Russ,
You can only steal SDA's at ebay nothing else, just for
thought.

Ron,
I'm waiting for your FAX...
Let me know,
Har
Fax will be sent tomorrow (Wed) sometime - probably in the am.
I think the idea of fabricating your own is a noble one. There is something to the DIY mentality.
Have you ever surf'd the DIY speaker sites? There are some really good designs out there - allowing exceptional performance values money-wise.
I considered this path until I listened to Thiels and realized that a DIY speaker will never have the design intensity of an audiophile expert engineer doing his job well. But, to just simply build a box, a x-over, and use polk drivers should give you very similar (if not identical) results.
Don't forget the thick polyfill needs to be inserted into the box to kill standing bass waves. The stuff inside my CRS+'s is like 4" thick. Its just kinda thrown in there by Polk.
Also, upon examination of the interior of the CRS's, I noticed that Polk Audio manufacturing was mighty sloppy in the application of the cabinet glue. The interior rubber surround of the 10" passive radiator had it gooped all over it. I very carefully removed this stuff without damage. The CRS+'s are built out of some heavy hardwood - its not MDF panels (if memory serves me correctly).
Why did I take apart my speakers - well, it began with simply changing the tweeters. Then, I noticed to glue goop and decided to pull the back PR's to get the 10 years of dust accumulation all cleaned off. Anyway, my CRS+'s are now squeaky clean (inside and out). The dust was mighty ugly looking before.
Why would anyone sell a set of CRS+'s for $400? Thats simply too low a price for such a good sound. Lots of silly people out their in audio-land I guess.
Take Care.
Ron
Ron,
Thank you again for your info. I will surf the DIY speaker sites
to get some idea of how it will be done precisely and accurately.
But for the meantime I am still waiting if something will come up
at ebay.
Har
Ron,
Did you fax the X'over diagram? Let me know...
Thanks,
Har
Set-up:
Mains SRS 1.2TL, 2.3TL's
Center CS400i, RTA 15TL (will be modifying as a Center)
Rear SDA 2B's
Not yet... still scatter brained running out of the house early for work in the am (I forgot). I'll try to get it to you on Monday. Friday is "veteran's day observed" in the automotive world.
I think I don't need a CRS+ anymore...:)
My SDA 2B's perform very well for a Rear channel and this
is only what I need for the CRS+;)
So you can keep your CRS+... Anyways, if some day
something comes up at ebay I'm sure...I can get it
and stock it up in my Garage, pretty sure...

Har,
You saved me a phone call. No fax forth-coming.
As for the 2B, yes, they are nice speakers.
Hope you got a nice set in oak to match your other SDA's.
I remember lots of cheesy looking vinyl 2B's were sold.
The CRS+ is way more kewl though <grin>.
Good Luck.
Ron
