It really is! His earlier combinations of TT & cartridges didn't do much for me but this setup is the bomb. I guess it's like all things audio, finding the right synergy.
I should re-word my other post. I wasn't tired of Rich telling me to get my ass out there, just frustrated I couldn't make the long trek out to the boonies.

We missed having you over. The dog especially. You don't torment him like I do.

Thanks for the kind words on the vinyl. That Tina Turner LP was a $1 goodwill special. But does it totally defeat the most amusing ModWright 9100ES digital playback?

If I want quality sound, I spin my vinyl. If I want convenience, I go with my CD or SACD formats. Vinyl rules, but it sure is a pain in the tookus. Why oh why can't some audio guru come up with a format that preserves the warmth and tonal quality of vinyl while offering the ease and durability of cd's?

The best way to enjoy digital music reproduction is to never listen to good analogue reproduction.

Here are my impressions after a few weeks experiencing vinyl. This is my first TT, and the last time I played a record it was with my dad's cheap 3 in 1 system many years ago. Obviously I did not own any vinyl. I got a Pro-ject RM5 with a Dynavector 10x5 and a Pro-ject tube box. I also got the VPI cleaning machine and the TT set up DVD. Setting up cartridge is a simple task; you just need to be very patient and go slow.

The first record I played, after the whole cleaning ritual, was Alison Kraus and Union Station, "So Long So Wrong". Bought New.
I was very happy with what I heard, and understood why vinyl has its place in the audiophile world. Smooth, 3 dimensional, "touchable" sound. Loved it.

I bought a couple other new albums and a ton of used. I am listening to a lot of vinyl and enjoying it...BUT.....yes, there's a but; it is frustrating to find that half of the used records you buy as "mint" will end in the trash. Cracks and pops all over, no matter how well you clean them, including the use of the Zyme gold.

I guess this is the one thing I am not liking about vinyl; new albums are expensive, and there's not a huge selection. You can find very good used vinyl, but the throw away % is high.

You will find that on even the best new vinyl there will be some "pops and crackles" until they are played a few times. I get most of the MFSL new releases, including both of Alison Krause releases, and they all have some surface noise present from the manufacturing process. This usually goes away after 4-5 plays. If it doesn't, return it for a new one.
