yep - many people really like them. I would try putting them on a platform of some sort to raise them above ear level - but most I have heard were just stitting on the floor like normal. I thought they sounded fine.
You just have to watch pointing them directly at your head or they could be overbearing. (maybe point them at the outside wall so you hear the reflected sound?) Direction would be room dependant - but I would point them directly at the listening position as a last resort.

yes you can use towers as rear speakers.. but don't expect as much volume out of them as your fronts of course.. they are hooked up to the surround speaker outputs.. so the volume will be lower. because only surround effects are played thru them. but should work pretty good. esp if they match your fronts. :)
so jbl's towers will sound better than bookshelf yamaha's I think i can agree with that

I use a set of RT800i's as rear surrounds. More than adequate!
Yes.
Do you hear that buzzing noise?
I also use a set of RT800i as rear surrounds. Kick A$$ ;)
Set mine as small I like that setting better, but have a kick a$$ sub also :D So maybe that is the difference.

I have LSi15s in the front and I replaced my rear LSi7s with LSi15s and it made a big improvement. Sounds great for HT and music. For stereo music I put the amp on multi-stereo and it uses all 4 speakers. Sounds great. It almost seems as if it was recorded that way.
We've got 15s up front, 9s in the back & FXs on the side. When listening to SACD's we're extremely glad we put the 9s in the back. We started with 9s in the front, brought another pair home to test our (would have been 9s front & back) room & setup, but when we got the 15s in front with 9s in the back that was the sweet spot for us & we couldn't be more pleased.

I like tower on stands. They are self stand and have fuller sound.

Where did SOPA go?
I use RTA15TL's for my rears, and love them.
