Default geee, i wonder if this would hurt?

i am currently running my ground cord (abt. 15 ft.) back to the battery, as this is the best ground i could think of...but now i am wondering if there might be a better ground a little closer. would bolting the ground to the steel bottom frame of my seat be a good ground? is there any test i can do to determine good grounds?

Most amplifier manufacturers suggest the bolt that attaches the seat belt to the floor as a good spot. Pretty much any bolt that is on unpainted metal that can be unbolted and reattached w/o too much trouble would work, I think. It might be good to get a 2nd opinion, though. I'm not all that well versed on car audio installations. I haven't even done one yet, but I've read through all the manuals and stuff for my amp and the rest of the system that I have waiting to be installed in my minivan. I'd say that my above statement is pretty close to being correct, or at least that's what my intuition tells me. That, and the stuff that Crutchfield sends.

first rule of car audio install --- your ground, when at all possible -- ought never be longer than 2 feet --- my grounds are about 3 but i'm running through a bunch of other distribution blocks and such... a shorter ground is safer and better for the amplifier -- i suggest you just scrape away some paint anywhere within 2 feet of the amp, and bolt that sucker down good with a sheetmetalscrew... u can put a dab of silicone caulk over the screw / metal so that u dont get any rust. (note - silicone OVER the ground.. NOT BETWEEN THE GROUNDAND METAL - that would defeat hte purpose!)
