speaker hookup to sub

I have currently purchased monitor 60s for fronts a cs1 center and i already owned bose 201(older style) bookshelfs for rears I have a 500 watt 5.1 channel sony receiver but it is old like 6-8 years old now it is a great receiver but only has single inputs for the center channel and rear speakers .It has dual for the fronts so i can bi wire the front speakers but i cant bi wire the center channel. I have a mirage bps150i powered sub.With a Mosfet high currency amp built into it.. My Question is can i run my center channel into the sub and maybe the rear speakers so they are bi amped instead of bi-wired......I was also wondering if I could hook my fronts into this to instead of bi-wiring...this is complicated i know but i need advice thanks

KD, welcome. Biwiring(aka "buywiring")isn't significantly different electrically and you shouldn't concern yourself with it as it has no audible benefit.

Your question about trying to connect various speakers into the sub indicates that you may think that the sub amplifier can somehow power those speakers, but the internal amplifier in the sub can only power the sub itself. Even if a speaker was connected through the sub, that's just a straight through connection and all the power for the speaker still comes from the receiver.

While I usually question any time someone else tells me what I will hear or not hear with my home theater, I have to agree to a point.

In my experience the benefits of bi-amping (before the crossovers anyway) are subtle at best and you will usually get better sound by just getting a better amp (rather than two less expensive ones).

Just hook up your speakers and enjoy.

If you really want to tweak something, you may hear some benefit by replacing the brass jumpers on the back of your biwire capable speakers with a short length of speaker wire. (then again - it may sound exactly the same....)

Your powered sub is made to only power your subwoofer. You cannot (and in most cases would not want to) make that amp power a full range speaker.

thanks guys so if i was to bi-wire the monitor 60s would that be worth it or just change the brass jumpers to speaker wire also if a bi-wire should I use a thicker gauge speaker wire on the lower terminals and a thinner gauge on the upper???

Personally - I would just change the jumpers with speaker wire and be done with it. If you want to give it a shot though - let us know what you think of the attempt (no matter how it turns out)

how do you feel about blue jean speaker wire as opposed to monster speaker wire I was thinking using the 12 gauge blue jean which is better monster or blue jean

Without hearing the exact monster cable it would be a guess on my part, but the blue jeans speaker cable is very good and much better than any monster speaker cable I have heard in the past. (at a fraction of the price)
