    Default Alpine...9883 / 9885 / 9887...opinions?

Of these three which one would you get ?

    why ?

My brother has the 9883...with all momo`s it sounds great !

I`m leaning towards the 9885, but I`m intrigued with the 9887

they say it has the best sound, and for 250.00 more, when it comes out (if it`s not out already), you can get the upgraded software to make it the best
    sounding Alpine out there...

Not sure I need time correction, but it would be real cool to have in the car...in the truck `m not sure I need it

I don`t really like the flip down face for inserting CD`s, as my current deck has the motorized one (CDA-7876), and is the best deck I have ever had ....so far !

    let`s talk 12v !

Oh, and I saw at crutchfield they have a 9886 comming soon also...!

I dunno Robert. It all depends on what youre wanting bro.

There wont be a difference in sound, so dont sweat that.

The only real differences between them will be the features.

Id say run down the feature list and pick the one that has what youre after. Theyre all excellent pieces and you cant go wrong with either of them so long as it has the features youre after.

If youre into tweaking you might want to consider the time alignment. Its fun to play with. ;)

It`s down to the 85 or 87 for sure, I think the 87 would be fun to play with, but ya gotta spend another 250 just to play !!

    crutchfeild....85=299
    87=399 (+250)

If they will all sound about the same though (with all momo gear), then the 9885 is lookin good right about now

of course if I actually did the car the right way, then the time alignment would be real cool, but the truck is up first, and the old Alpine Head Unit is going in the BMW

    Looks like the 9885

    Thanks MAC

    Good Luck Bro...!

I just installed the 9883 in my truck , absolutely love it . Great sound , plays my Ipod nice , loud and easily . I've got Polk db-6500's hooked to it and a 8" Momo sub on the way .

I picked up the CDA-9887 last month. I think it is well worth the money over the 9885, you will gain a 5 band PEQ/7 band graphic, time alignment, 24 Bit Burr Brown DAC, and the ability to use the Imprint feature. If you are leaning towards the 9885, you may want to wait for the 9886 as it seems that Alpine has fixed the little quirks that both the 9887/9885. It will also have it's own version of the Imprint software that is supposed to be coming out early next year.

Crutchfield has the option of renting the Imprint Kit for the 9887. If you send it back within 30 days, they will only charge you $50. Something else to think about. If you ever need to use it again (say if you bought another car), they will let you use it for free.

I have decided to get the 9887 w/ the Alpine KTX-100EQ add on

I have two new 10" momo subs, new 6.5 momo door speaks, new polk amps, and will probably use the db 4x6`s that are already there in the rear pillars...
    (98 chevy stnd cab trk)

The new carpet kit is on sale, and so are the new buckets, but they will have to wait for awhile longer....

I will use the CDA 7876 deck that is in the truck already for the BMW...I have new 5 1/4`s and 6x9`s, along with the other polk amps that I already have for that project...

I have been collecting all this stuff for awhile now....my new SR12DVC sub will go in the BMW also

My "B" day is the 23rd, and I`m going to make the new head unit my present

I have a pair of the older model Momo 12 subs that I bought, along with a brand new two hole box, neither of which have even been out of the box they came in, up for sale now

Thanks for all your input guy`s...

I still have a bunch of help I need, so I`ll be here on the 12v dark) side for awhile !!

I had the alpine 9885 even though it was a nice unit. The sound quality of the unit does not even come close to my kenwood excelon x-791. If you want smooth playback controls and ipod connection go with alpine. If your looking for sheer sound quality the kenwood excelon's are hard to beat bro.

9887 i have it on my accord and it sounds better than the 85 that i have on my civic

the 24 bits DAC burr brown make a difference.

also de parametric EQ, when you dont want to spend more on an EQ and you learn how to use it can make wonderful things.

also the 87 have a optional sound prossesor, the imprint module, is not available now, but that will make another big difference.

also the display is a lot better

beardog03 it looks like you made a good decision, I do not think you will regret getting the CDA-9887. If you need more help, that's what we are here for :).

I've had several high end units, the last being the very top offerings from Eclipse within the last few years (CD8454, CD8455, & CD7000). These HU's are well known for their SQ capabilities, so I have a good reference point. I can tell you that the CDA-9887 is a solid HU that has very good SQ. While the PEQ is not be as flexible as the Eclipse units, I still took the plung and am happy with my decision.

That`s what I love about CP...!

It`s a great place to learn, and get help when needed...

Of course my wife thinks I need "help" already...!!

I have to get some more speaker cable, and I need to get the amp wire kits.

I looked at what I have and I have a Streetwires" 300w amp kit, but I will have anywhere from 2-4 amps...depending on how I do it....
So I need to figure out my configuration next, I guess...

    I have the following amps to work with;

    Polk 400.4
    Polk 300.2 (2)
    Polk 500.1 (2)

I need to get a cap also, don`t you think ?

get a cap and use it as a distribution block. As far as amp kits, checking out lighting audio, made in the same place as rockford fosgate but is about half the price.

I wouldnt go with a cap, just another thing for your electrical system to charge. If you go with two amps you should be good with just some 4ga or so. If you decide to run more than two, or that you may want to run more in the future i would bite the bullet now and wire some 1/0ga and be done with it.

Your alternator should run 2 just fine, but in the case of running more at the least i would invest in a new battery, a yellowtop would work nicely. And let me state that i know youre not going to be competing or anything. But doing it right the first time will yield you better tunes and less chance of getting a headache later down the road.

Also if you're feeling froggy you may want to go ahead and wire the big three, which would probably give you the biggest benefit aside from new alt, batteries etc.

I'll throw this link in if you want to read more about the big three.
    http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=152355

And another link for wire/connector/fuses etc.

Crutchfield has the Alpine CDA-9884 and 9886 coming out on Nov. 21 of this year. I'm gonna be getting the 9884 myself since my old CDA-9827 got stolen along with some other stuff.

After looking over the specs for the two HUs, it seems 9887>9886 ;). Closest thing to Bass Engine Pro (Imprint notwithstanding).

    Agreed

The 9886 is not the replacement for the 9887. Should be interesting to see what the 9887's replacement will have.

I was looking at the 86, but the 87 seems to have it all

I was just at BB looking at them...
I will ge tmine from Crutchfeild, but I wanted to actually touch and play with them before I buy...

They didn`t have the 9886 of course , but they did have the 9885..

The 83 was kinda cool...and only 200 bucks....

it looked like it was worth the 200....not bad actually

still not sure of what to think of the IDA-X001 though

Had the IDA-X001 had a built in cd player, and the 9887's processing it would be a sweet HU. I would have picked it up when they first came out.

The CDA9887 maynot be replaced this year. It came out much later than everything else. I have had a CDA7878 and a CDA9815. Both of these units had bass engine pro. I believe the 7878 was the first to have it. It was stolen and I replaced it with the CDA9815. I loved both of these decks and would gladly take either one of them back if that was possible. I think the BURR BROWN DACs and the time correction are worth the extra money. ANd of course the Alpines have a built in sound processor that helps out those MP3's and satellite radio compressed signals.

the idx has terrible rca preout voltage, its like 1.5, if u get that get a line (amp, charger, i forget whats its called), but i have also heard from an apline rep that i got to talk to for a bit, that next years plans to have video and a cd player, however now if u still like to have the option of CDs, u can get a changer for it... the 9883 doesnt have the same screen as the 9885 and the 87, the writing will be harder to read in the sun

What if say you're not a good tweaker and all that (like me). Which one then would be the right choice?
