Well-I just ordered a 505 for my nephew, first av(refurbished) from them, but I have in the past bought a m-282 amp from there and have not had any problems what soever with it-with the discounts and points for past Onkyo purchase`s it comes out to a pretty good deal.Anyways , not a whole lot of help there, but I haven`t had any problems.
Speakers:Front RTi12,Center CSi5,Side surround RTi70,Back Surround RT55i,Presence RTi6,Subwoofer 2 HO`s,Yamaha HTR 5790,Pioneer DV-47ai,Sony CDP-CX 400,Toshiba 57H83,Monster HTPS7000,Panamax 4400,Amplifier Ati 2505,Audioquest Diamondback interconnects,12awg speaker wire
Yes, the receiver was fine, but it had some cosmetic defects (like light scratches and signs of use).
I ended up returning the AVR, not because it had any problems, but just because of the fact that it had scratches on the finish.

Yes, margate, and the receiver that I got couldn't be distinguished from new even cosmetically. The sale on the 505 that jimi mentioned is a terrific bargain; by registering for "Club Onkyo", you get the $179 sale price plus a $10 credit for registering. In addition, there's a Thanksgiving sale the next four days with an additional 10% off. The net result is a $151 cost(with free shipping)for this fine unit.
You might also note that Accessories4less is an authorized Onkyo seller and sometimes has refurb models available that ShopOnkyo doesn't, although maybe at a slightly higher price.
I got a refurbed TX-NR901 and looks like new to me though the box was tagged as "cosmetic". Well worth the savings IMO.
Good Luck!

I have been a member of shoponkyo.com for a long time but have yet to purchase anything from them. One thing that I would like to point out is that shoponkyo.com offers inexpensive extended warranties directly from Onkyo that starts after the one year factory warranty on refurbished products. I feel that these warranties are much better deals than what, for example Circuit City, offers.
BTW, both the 505 and 605 HT receivers received rave reviews in the British audiophile press for their sound quality.
I also have purchased one before and had absolutely no problems for 2 years before I upgraded.
Before I purchased I did some research on refurbed products and found this.
8.6 out of 10 units of electronics will go for their life without problems, this leaves 1.4 out of 10 will have problems.
With refurbed electronics it goes way up to 9.7 out of 10 will experience no problems.
That in itself spoke volumes.
Since that day, I've bought numerous refurbed electronics, from a LCD TV to Digital camera's over the past few years and have no problems to report.
Thats why extended warranties are a huge gamble and money maker, they are playing upon the same odds!!
Also to add upon this that the odds of a unit new/ refurbed are at a very high level, that failures will occur within the first 6 months of ownership and a 98% rate, leaving 2% of failures beyond a 6 month period, making warranties and all most guarantees to be a money maker.
I've read quite a few posts from shoponkyo.com buyers over on the AVS forum. I have yet to read any complaints about them. You are not guaranteed to get a perfect unit though, as appadv pointed out.
